I can no longer delete older Acronis 2014 backups from my external hard drive and now I do not have enough space to do a backup.

Thread needs solution

I backup to an external Hitachi 500 GB hard drive. Now the drive is filled up, and when I try to delete one of my older backups, Windows 8.1 says that the file folder named "Full_C_drive_backup_10_30_2014_full_b1_s1_v1" cannot be deleted because the file folder is open in COM Surrogate mode.

I have several backups on this hard drive and before today I could always delete the oldest one, so that in case of disk failure I always had several Acronis 2014 backups that I could recover from.

Thank you for your help.

I would reboot the computer and try again using the procedure outlined in my example GH5. All deletions of backups from working tasks in 2013-2014 should be performed via GH5. If that fails, then you have no other alternative but to delete via Windows Explorer if deletion is still needed.
