Thread needs solution

Hello o mighty acronis team. I can't believe this !

I get "Image is corrupted" error when i wanted to restore my backup(created in RM Boot CD), i also get same error when i want to use "Mount Image". This was a nightmare for me becauose i will lose 80GB od data from my work.

Guess what ? IT WAS ONLY BECAUSE I SET ARCHIVE FILE TO BE HIDDEN OMGOGMOGMOGMG !!!

Note that i know that some of you will not believe me that such simple thing can totally fuck up Scronis true image, i should make a movie showing this biggest nonsense in my entire life.

But i don't care, i register only to post this information to other customers: i will never ever buy anything from this company again !

Goodbye.

As you probably won't be reading this reply, I suppose no one needs to try and help you with a problem that was caused by you.

You haven't mentioned what version or build of True Image you used, nor what file system is being used on the drive.

As you made the file hidden after the image was made, I'm a little sceptical that 'unhiding it' has caused a corruption problem.

Hiding a file in a FAT/NTFS system is no more than changing a single bit in a special part of the file indictor entry in the file record, so that all disk reading software in standard mode ignore the file. The only way this file entry could be corrupted assuming it wasn't a corrupt image originally would be if somehow the Windows file manager has allowed another file to be overlayed over part of the sectors occupied by the image. This could certainly happen if a defrag program has been run on the drive.

Once the file has been made visible then mounting etc should work.

You probably need a disk editor to check to see if the file record is correctly terminated with an 0xFF and that the sector chain has the right pointers to the next sector.

You could try copying the image (assuming you ahve made it visible) to another drive ideally an internal one and see if TI in windows can read the image. If it can then so long as you ahve no booting problems with the rescue CD you should be able to restore the image. Mounting does not work with the rescue CD, though a windows PE version can be persuaded to mount images.

Actually, he doesn't say anything about resetting the bit back to no-hidden. If he did that, the issue would rpobably go away, provided that he doesn't have a bad disk or a file system problem as Colin mentioned.
