I have 3 issues

Thread needs solution

1. I've had 3 long distance deaths in the family over January while I was trying to and fix my C drive crash problems evaluate True Image 2012 . So my trial copy expired. I believe my my backup is still available when I purchase the product but that will be a few days yet.
2. I had tried several times to repair my copy of Windows XP without success prior to making a backup of what was on my C drive using True Image 2012. But I did get a good backup on my F drive. I deleted everything on my C drive and built a complete new system successfully. I then restored to my C drive what I had backed up using True Image. I discovered that doing that was not a good idea as it trashed my new drive C image.
3. I can live without everything that was originally on my C drive except for the past 6 years of income tax records and the programs that make them available. How do I get only the 2nd Story applications & data from the backup once I get my drive C installed again? I had hoped to use regedt32 to capture the data from the inactive hive, but the information I have about that process using regedt32 is not correct. I have found no way to access an inactive hive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

No, Acronis True Image did not trash your drive. You said that you "tried several times to repair my copy of Windows XP without success" before you created a backup image with ATI. So, your Windows system was messed up, and you created an image of that messed-up system. Now you've restored that image, thus returning your system to that messed-up state. ATIH worked as it's supposed to. The problem was that you should not have restored a full disk image of a defective system.

What are "2nd Story applications & data"?

Once you have a properly-functioning Windows system again, run chkdsk on the drive to ensure that there are no drive errors. You may then recover files from the ATIH backup image, to restore your data. You can do this either:

- by installing ATIH in Windows, then mounting the backup image to explore it and drag over the files you want.

Or,

- by booting from the ATIH recovery media, then restoring files.

You will not be able to restore working, installed applications from the ATIH image. You will have to install those applications again.

If you had an ATIH backup image, a full disk image, of your Windows disk from when it was working properly, before the errors, then you could restore that full disk image. Once restored, your system would be exactly as it was when you made that image, including of course all installed applications and all your data.

I'm sorry I did not mean to imply that Acronis True Image product messed up my machine. I know and understand that I created the problem and that it was not the Acronis True Image product.
This is the first time I have had this kind of trouble and I did not realize at the time the problem I was creating. Sometimes learning the hard way is quite painful.
I sincerely apologize for leaving the impression that I was blaming the Acronis True Image product that is definately NOT the case.

Now that I have created the problem through ignorance is there a way I can get just the information I need out of the restored inactive heap?

"restored inactive heap" - I don't know what that means.

As I explained, you can recover your data/files from that ATIH image you made. I provided two methods: you may choose either. But, do as I advised and run chkdsk first, just in case disk errors were part of the reason that your system got messed up.
