i need to clone a laptop hdd to ssd, need to as follow

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys,
1- i would like to know if i want to clone the laptop hdd to a new ssd, if i can connect the ssd into a usb conversion cable and then this into the laptop usb connector and then be able to clone the hdd ?

2- or do i need to remove the laptop hdd and connect it to a usb adapter, then to the laptop usb, then the new ssd into the sata internal connector where the hdd was and then do the cloninng ?

which of the two option are correct ?

Thanks in advance

Ernesto:

Option 1 will work if your laptop uses standard disk geometry, which most do. Some do not.
Option 2 will work in all cases, and is the preferred method. This method requires that you boot from the Acronis recovery CD or flash drive to clone while Windows is shut down.

After cloning, be sure that you do not boot into Windows with both disks attached. Disconnect the USB disk before first boot.
