I thought Image Restore Erased Everything Prior???

Thread needs solution

I had some trouble with Exchange through Outlook... for testing I created a new profile, etc. and then Outlook would not load - then I got the dreaded blue screen. I knew there might be trouble before I started testing, so I made a backup image beforehand. I restored that image back and Outlook loaded fine, but after the restore, right when the system came back up, I still had that message that said, "Your computer has recovered from a crash." Why did that happen... shouldn't restoring back the image have gotten rid of ALL evidence of some kind of crash like that???

Just as a note - I recently changed my email address for this forum - when I changed my email address something got screwed up... I signed in under the new email (same password) and it's treating this as a "new account." I wasn't aware it did that, I was also not aware that is gave out my real name until I saw it and went wtf??? Not cool. So I really don't know what to do on the forum now..??? How do I get back to my "old" account with my updated email as opposed to this one???

I have to log in using my old email address, but when I go to My Account for that account it shows my new email - apparently it's just not updating the "log in" information... so I have to log in using the old email address - that should be fixed.

The paging file contains a flag that indicates that a crash happened and that a minidump has to be written. Maybe everything came back in place upon your restore and Windows still read the flag.

It was my understanding that restoring an image back makes whatever you did - gone (unless it's the BIOS.) If that is "not" the case, then I would do things differently going forward. I thought nothing survived (again, unless it's the BIOS.)

Sectors not written to during a restore are not wiped. You can end up with "old" data on the drive after a restore. If this is a problem, you can wipe the drive first using TI and then restore.

For what it's worth, I've had Windows report that error at times when it didn't crash. The message can also be one of a crash in the currently running Windows that it was able to recover from. In other words, it might not have been an "old" crash. You could check the Event Log and see what it says.

To fix your login mixup, contact Customer service via support and explain.

Prior to your login problem, to change your email, you would login not to the forum but to the main website and login using your old email address. Then from inside your profile, you would change the old to the new address. As Acronis will only allow one email address, you cannot correct yourself as one copy of the new address is already in use. You need their help to get it untangled.

Thanks for the feedback... What I was trying to do with Outlook profiles I believe caused the problem, I couldn't get it to load repeatedly right before that screen - and I thought it best to restore the image back than move forward after seeing that blue screen with a system that might be unstable - even if Windows did recover okay - you just can't know (or I can't, maybe with your knowledge you could.) I checked the event log but that is a very complicated tool... I don't know. Which is why I use Acronis, so I can get out of what I don't know. It bothered me seeing that, because the system should be back in a state "prior" to that event... I will think twice about what I do now.

As for changing my email address - I thought the forum was separate from my Acronis account - thus I logged into the forum as well as my Acronis account to change both - obviously it didn't go well.
