I want to check 'restore MBR'...
This is regarding True Image Home 2011 on a Win7 64b system (but I also want to know for a 32b system if any difference).
I have used a back-ghosting system and Acronis for many years, and regularly restore to a known good and clean file. I have never checked marked the 'restore MBR and Track 0' when I restore.
Lately I have reason to suspect (but can't prove yet) I may have a persistent virus...maybe in the MBR. I recently had suspicious happenings and I did a standard restore, but later had some more anomalies. It could be a series of weird coincidences, but...
I still want to restore the same .tib file, but this time check the MBR thing.
I never have done it this way so I'm a bit hesitant.
My partition setup is:
C: and a bunch of other partitions (7) that are like:
P:Pictures
M:Movies...etc etc.
When I restore, I only ever restore the operating system partition and I always leave my data partitions alone.
I have read that checking the restore MBR will NOT affect my existing partitions and data as it will leave the partition table alone.
My question here is to CONFIRM that before I proceed. I still haven't solved my possible virus issue and certainly don't want to make more problems trying to fix it.
So.....can I proceed fearlessly? After all..Acronis is about being fearless!
(also any suggestions regarding virus that restoring the Op.System partition won't cure would be appreciated).
Thanks in advance,
Sorry if this is an old answered topic; I did do some searching...just need to confirm for MY specific situation...and then I have bigger fish to fry...vis a vis the damn virus...if I even have one.
