ide to sata restores
Hi, Im currently using ATI 2010 and are wishing to upgrade an ide hard drive to a sata one. My motherboard has both ide and sata connectors, so I want to backup my ide c drive and restore it to a new (2nd hand) sata. Are there any special procedures. I do have plus pack, but ive never installed it, and im now in the habit of using the rescue disc for major jobs anyway.
Thanks in advance

Sorry to persist with this, but ive read on another forum that there could be a problem going from ide to sata on win xp as apparently xp doesnt load sata drivers when its installed, meaning my backups wont have sata drivers? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks

If you don't change the hard drive controller when you change from IDE to SATA, you won't have a driver issue. I wouldn't expect that a change from IDE to SATA interface would mean a different disk controller in a modern computer. In some older computers, you would move from IDE to SATA through adding a PCI card, for example (that would be a different disk controller then).
If you have to change the hard drive controller, you could try to use the Universal Restore feature of ATI, that comes when you purchase the plus pack. This is not an easy feature to use, but it is the best alternative short of having to reinstall OS and apps.
