Image to new computer

Thread needs solution

I have two computers, if I clean install win 7 home premium on one and just install the programs I need on it, can I then create an image file and install this on the second computer? ( they are not the same type of motherboard etc ) This would obviously save a lot if time installing everything again on the second machine!
How does win 7 license work if I did this?
Thanks

YOu will need to use the Universal Restore feature of Acronis True Image to restore the image of computer A on computer B. For this to work, you will need the chipset and disk controllers (if there are some disk controllers separate from the main chipset) in their native format ( *.SYS and *.INF). A good way to get these drivers is to copy the Windows/System32/Drivers and /SysWOW64/Drivers folders *IF* the OS of computer B is the same as computer A.
With windows retail versions, you will be able to move the license easily, maybe it will require an automated phone call to MS support, it if doesn't activate automatically. With OEM versions, it is a bit more tricky. You'd have to fetch the actual product license number (using a tool to retrieve it from the registry), and you might run into issue during activation, and end up having to talk to MS support. I only deal with retail versions these days, so I am not sure of the outcomes/possibilities with OEM versions.
