imaging over a network

I have an older computer with IDE 40g HDD,I have built a new computer with a 160 sata HDD. This computer is as new {,not even started yet}Completly bare HDD. Can I image my old HDD to the new one using my network or do I have to put the old HDD in the new box to image it. I have one IDE slot in the new M/B 2 Sata connected to the dvd drive and the new HDD
