Imremental backup problem

Thread needs solution

I backup using a sequence of FULL backup followed by five INCREMENTAL backups then another a FULL backup and five more INCREMENTAL backups etc. I had three full backups and five incremental backups after the first and second full backups. I then ran out of space on the backup drive. I decided to delete the five incremental backups after the first full backup as I didn't need them and so as to create space on the backup drive. However, when I now run the backup it tries to create an incremental backup using first full backup. I want it to create an incremental backup using the third full backup. Is there a way to instruct the program to do this?

You might have an interest in this link as I believe it is the same basic problem--which is lack of storage space.

You evidently do not have enough space to store 3 full backups on a regular basis.
Editing a current task causes unexpected issues so my suggestion would be to stop using your existing backup task and create a new task pointing to a new empty sub-folder as the target. Set the backup scheme to your 5 inc but set the other option to
Store no more than 2 recent version chains.

Acronis always creates a new replacement before deleting the old so it actualy needs more space than implied. Store no more than 2 means that actually, the program needs space (short term-temporary) for 3 full plus the 10 incs from the other 2 fulls. If you calculate the space needs for the 3 and 10 and still lacking, then youl will need to reduce your backups even further or get more storage space.

To get our of your fix, you may be able to delete the first full (or move it elsewhere) but this involves a task edit which I do not recommend.

Hi GroverH,

Ok, thanks for your very detailed and helpful reply, much appreciated. It seems that Acronis is not able to run a backup task over more than one disk drive.
