Incremental backup to restore

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to make a clone or image of my SATA C drive partition to a partition on another physical SATA hard drive from a backup archive (full backup with incremental backups) on an external USB hard drive. I've done this before, so I know it works. However, after the reboot, I just get a lot of error messages such as "-1 unknown error 17" and "using /lib/modules/usb-storage.ko". I had a major crash (BSOD) a few weeks ago - is this part of the problem? I recovered from the crash by implementing the process I described above, but it doesn't work every time - hence my post. Any ideas?
TIA

What version and build of TI/B&R are you using?

Do you get the same error booting to the rescue media and trying to perform the restore?

It's version 11, build 8053 ,and yes I did have similar problems using the boot CD after I had the big crash, but I didn't manage to resolve it. I reloaded Windows, then TI and eventually I managed to restore from the archive to an alternative HDD, from which I got everything else back. It doesn't seem to be repeatable (or "deterministic"), so I'm not sure how to ensure I can get guaranteed performance. Any ideas?

TIA,

Graham

You might try the latest build of TI 11 (8,101).

The problems sound like the Linux drivers are not always detecting the hardware correctly.

When you boot the CD, try doing either a reset or a cold-boot instead of a reboot and see if that makes a difference. I have one computer that will error like you describe with TI if I boot different versions/builds of TI or just reboot instead of resetting.

I think Linux is more fussy about the "state" of the hardware when it boots. Also, Linux doesn't always "shutdown" everything correctly. This isn't normally a problem when turning off the computer, but can cause problems when rebooting.
