Incremental Backupful Same Size as Original

Thread needs solution

My drive has only one partition and I did not create a new Acronis partition because I will store the Acronis backup in the IDrive online backup site.

When I create an incremental partition, it is slightly larger in size the the orignal full backup file

Is it possible to store backups on the same C drive that is being backed up, and create an incremental backup that is NOT as large as the original backup? If so, how do I do that?

Or will I be required to create a new Acronis partition and save the backups there?

Thanks

If you store an image file on the same partition that is being backed up, then the first full image will not contain a copy of itself because Acronis TrueImage (ATI) uses snapshot technology whereby the image will contain only the partition contents at the instant that the backup is started.

Later if you create an incremental image it will then include all of the changed sectors on the partition, which will include the full image file. This will result in a very large incremental image file, as you found out.

A possible workaround is to exclude all .tib files from your image, so that your backup files are not included in any of the images. However, this isn't a very good backup strategy since if your drive fails, you will be unable to restore it since your images will be lost.

You should store your image files somewhere else, like on an external USB hard disk.
