Incremental backups - older full backups needed?

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I set up an incremental backup scheme which keeps some older backup chains. Now, what I see is the following:
backup_full_b1_s1_v1.tib
backup_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib
backup_inc_b1_s3_v1.tib
backup_inc_b1_s4_v1.tib
backup_inc_b1_s5_v1.tib
backup_full_b2_s1_v1.tib
backup_inc_b2_s2_v1.tib
backup_inc_b2_s3_v1.tib
backup_inc_b2_s4_v1.tib

Now, I thought that everything from the b1 chain is not needed anymore, because I have a b2 full backup. However, if I move the files from the b1 chain to an other folder and try a validation of my backup tasks, it complains that version 5 is missing and if I want to search or ignore it.
The question is: What does this question mean? Is is just that TI keeps an eye on the backup files (because it might have to delete them later) so ignoring them won't do any harm? Or, if I try to do a restore having just the b2 files (inc and full), will get me into trouble because it then would reclaim the b1 files for any reason I don't understand?

My final goal is that I will copy the older backup chains to an external drive later and - if needed - be able to make a restore from a single backup chain (inc and full), let's say the b4 backup chain - without any b1, b2 or b3 files. Later on I would delete the inc files from the saved files and only keep some full backups. But all this would only work if TI is working as I thought it would :-)

Regards,
Thorsten

For the record: I am using TI 2013 / Windows 7 Professional

As I indicated to you in a prior post, my recommendation is to set up automatic cleanup (as per this example) so deletion of the older backups will be automatic so manual deletion not needed. New task, new backup name, new storage folder name.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

In response to your question.

validation asks if I want to search or ignore it.
The question is: What does this question mean?

Yes, TrueImage tracks the backup found one missing.
If you have manually deleted the missing backup, you should respoond "ignore". If you deleted multiples, then you will need to respond "ignore" multiple times.
Or, if the missing backup does exist, you should use the provided search function and attempt to find it.
------------------------
B1: A full backup is a standalone backup and not dependent on others. If it has associated incrementals, only the MOST RECENT can be deleted.
The backup chain must remain in numeric sequence beginning with the full. You can (in sequence) delete S6, S5, S4, S3, S2 and S1, or you can keep the Full S1. If you perform any deletions, Validate and respond to the "ignore" message.

B2: What happened to B2, S5? Did you delete? If yes, validate manually and respond to the "ignore" and it will probably restart the numbering with the correct number.

This next link has numerous example. Particularly the "PLxx" links shows various examples of automatic cleanup

I believe the automatic cleanup will provide what you are asking for. Review the example. Let me know the results.
