Installation fails
Every time I try to install True Image 2012 i get a fatal install error shortly after the install starts. I've tried re-downloading the media, I'm installing as administrator, I've shut every other program down and disabled virus software... Nothing makes any difference.
Operating System is Win 7 32bit
I'm upgrading from 2011 which is currently installed

Stephen,
The install failure does seem to be due to Admin permissions.
MSI (s) (8C:40) [18:52:40:246]: Package to be registered: 'AcronisTrueImage.msi'
MSI (s) (8C:40) [18:52:40:246]: Note: 1: 2262 2: Error 3: -2147287038
MSI (s) (8C:40) [18:52:40:246]: Note: 1: 2262 2: AdminProperties 3: -2147287038
Have you tried right clicking the installer exe and selecting run as Administrator, I found I had to do this in one of my VM's even though I have Admin permissions.

I am in the same boat.
Windows 7. 64-bit. 8GB RAM
Purchased the 2012 upgrade.
Tried installing on top of 2010.
System rebooted shortly after install started.
Windows tried to "fix" the problem but couldn't. But, it did reboot to Win7.
Uninstalled 2010. Tried reinstalling. Same reboot.
This time not only could Windows NOT fix the problem but I couldn't boot either. Couldn't boot into safe mode either.
Nuked the boot partition. Reinstalled a VIRGIN clean version of Win7.
Even though I have God rights on my machine, I right-clicked on the install and chose run as Administrator.
Same reboot just after install gets going.
Boot straight into Safe Mode.
Rebooted into Win 7.
Pulled down another copy of the software to the desktop. Tried reinstalling from there. Same reboot.
...after "registering modules" it goes again into "installing" Here, it gets about 1/3 through and consistantly reboots.
Upon Win7 starting, when I don't have to reformat the hard drive, this is the error I get:
"...\acronis\truimagehome\afcdpapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
There is a pictureless icon on my desktop so I'm guessing the install got partially done. A software product should not be this difficult to install. I've installed clustering on Win Servers and clustered SQL without 1/100 of this difficulty!
Please advise.

Daniel,
Did you reboot between uninstalling 2010 an dinstalling 2012?
I don't think the Acronis installer actually touches the BCD (unless you had a Secure Zone set up with 2010), what is most likely to have happened is that the Acronis Adapter and disk driver have not installed correctly which will cause Windows not to boot, normally you'll get a BSOD but if the disk drive filter is incorrect Windows can't find parts of the hard disk.
Anyhow, what I suggest is use the Acronis cleaner to uninstall 20xx (note this will also disable any other Acronis product you have installed) and then install 2012.
The cleaner is here for 2010 or if 2012 is installed at the moment use the 2011 one which is here instead.

Colin:
After the 2010/2012 fiasco, I had to nuke the hard drive.
Since my last post, I restored to the virgin install (slightly groped by Acronis :( )
(b.t.w. virgin = new Win7 installation with ALL updates as of the time of my last post)
I checked the registry and there was NO Acronis entry to be found.
I checked the hd and found NO Acronis directories.
From the install package on my desktop, right clicked, run as administrator.
Crapped out same place although this time the Acronis desktop shortcut actually has a picture in it.
System rebooted mid-install. Upon reboot into Win7, same dll error as cited in previous post.
I will be restoring to "virgin acronis groped" Win7.
Has this actually been tested on Win7 ??????????????

Well the beta has, the release version......
I've installed the trial version of 2012 onto my Windows 7 Ult 64 bit VM system, so the question is what is different between your version and mine or other W7 users.
Do you have anything like Nero installed? AFCD is the DLL that looks after Non Stop Backup, if you have any other software installed that can perform things like drag and drop (as INCD for example can) these might be clashing.
I would be inclined to disable all startup items in MSConfig apart from any that are required by Windows itself and see if you get any further, if not, I can only suggest making an Acronis Report (which in your case will need to be downloaded from here, run it and then raise a support ticket with the report file attached.

I have this problem too. And like I told earlier live support did over a hour job and cannot fix anything but promise to investigate problem and contact me later. I'm not hold my breath while waiting...

I too have similar problem but only on one of my three systems. It's on Lenovo X61. It just locks up the system about 3/4 trough the installation. I have re-installed my Windows because I taught that something was causing this but this made no difference even on fresh Windows 7 install. By the way, I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7. I have noticed that it seems to do this during registry updating (maybe) but one time during the attempted install it locked up even at the early stages of install.

I forget to tell that I have these problems with x64 Windows 7 too, but TI 2012 installed just fine to my x86 laptop when I tested it earlier.

Colin,
Yeah, when it didn't install first time I tried the 'right click -install as admin' trick.. didn't work
At the moment I'm installing 2012 without first uninstalling 2011.. Could that be it?.. i'll try it and see, back in 15 minutes.....

Guys, that did it.. I un-installed ATI 2011 using Windows control panel, re-booted, then installed 2012 from scratch, it then installed without a hitch.

I have an x61, I'll try installing the trial version on it later today. At the moment I have the beta installed, which obviously worked.
Is your W7 upto date and your Lenovo toolbox current?

I did that already in first place and it did not help me at all.

Installation problems here too (Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 Lenovo T500) - BSOD.
Tried upgrading TIH 2011; well into the installation I got the first ever blue screen (on this PC) - STOP 0x0000007E in vididr.sys
Rebooted - Control panel showed TIH 2011 still installed - uninstalled TIH 2011 from Control panel, rebooted - Win7 failed to boot - Windows auto repair running - finally booted (!).
Second attempt at installing: same blue screen during install.
On rebooting there also pops up an error message "Acronis True Image Monitor has stopped working". Also, Windows event log reports various drivers failing to load (all Acronis related), and device manager reports an unknown device "root\vididr_bus".
Finally ran the 2012 cleanup tool downloaded from Acronis' site.
It should also be noted that antivirus "real time shields" were turned off during the installation attempts (Avast antivirus) - albeit still loaded.
At this point I'm giving up on on TIH 2012, as I have too much time and effort invested in my system and am not willing to risk making it inoperable. HUGE disappointment and loss of confidence in the product, don't even know if I'm willing to re-install TIH 2011.

I have waited for a week for answer from Acronis to my refund request, nothing so far. :(
I'll definitely change my disk imaging software, I quite tired all this. It seems that Acronis using paying customer for beta testing their products.
And what happened king of disk imaging software, True Image. I'm so sad that is bloated with useless features. Once True Image was program that I recommend for everyone with all my heart. What happened?
Could it be time to rollback and create basic and trustworthy disk imaging software that can handle it's earlier installations without tweaking registry or similar mess?

Yamaneko:
Interesting. At one time, Partition Magic was the leader in hard disk management/backup software. They couldn't keep up with advances in OS's. Then Acronis took the lead role. You now know from experience, and lack of Acronis response, where they stand.
I too have requested a refund. I hope not to have to file a dispute with PayPal for the reimbursement.
Until Acronis gets their act together, I recommend EASEUS software. I have been using it in place of Acronis and have found it to do what I need it to do without the excessive bloat of Acronis and the installation is not half as invasive as Acronis.
Keep this thread open to inform others of how the refund process is going.
(p.s. I am not uninstalling my ATI just to accommodate Acronis! )

What's the status of this problem?
I am in the same boat, but fortunately I decided to use the trial copy of the software. I have been using Acronis for years and originally liked it but every upgrade it seems to present more problems and reduced operational ease.

Just posted a New issue with this. I have a Lenovo T61, x86 with Win 7 SP1. Had clean system, no Acronis and tried to install their latest 2012 Home Edition (full version). I removed 2012 and installed version 2011 and that seems to work fine. I tried all the thing reported above with no success. If it was not for a previous image backup from another product I had offline I would have had a hosed laptop!
I posted the issue on their support. See if they respond. I have been using Acronis for a long time and upgraded for the past few years. There are quite a few issues I see in the postings lately. What has happened to the quality of this once good software...
If not fixed there are other products... LapLink, EaseUs, etc. Seems like this has been going on for a while now...
Forgot to put HD model: WD3200BEKT-00F3T0 (Western Digital) may be significant...

Is anyone getting any support? I upgraded True Image Home 2012 Plus from 2011. It failed to activate. I opened a trouble ticket. A support remote control session was no help0 and ended with a frozen system. An email recommended I run their unstall program, as the control panel wasn't good enough. I guess their uninstall process is broken too.
After running their uninstall program, 2012 seemend to install. However, the uninstall deleted or broke the drivers to my external HP USB drives that contain my backup files. I haven't been able to fix the access problem so Acronis can't get to the backup data.
Further, I am not getting any response to my updates to my problem record, my request to fix my drive access, my request for a refund of my 2012 charges, and a restoration of my 2011 Plus version.
Proceed to True Image Home 2012 at your peril!!!

If you all read back far enough, you will see that my experience with 2012 was disasterous. I am flabbergasted that this issue has not yet been resolved by Acronis. The solution to my problem was (1) get a refund from Acronis [done], (2) go back to using an older registered version of Acronis [done] and (3) investigate EaseUS [done].
At this point, I'm sorry for you all but I don't really care if Acronis solves this problem or not! All you see is bald spot on the back of my head and the soles of my shoes as I walkaway from Acronis. EaseUS has been very good to me. And one thing that immediately struck me about EaseUS was that the installation was not as invasive as the Acronis products. Do an uninstall of Acronis and see how much sh*t is left in your registry. Then use their clean-up tool and see how much sh*t is STILL in your registry!
