Installing 2011 causing BSOD on every logon attempt
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit 4gb memory Lenovo T61 laptop, 250gb Corsair SSD
Quick search of forum didn't find 2011 and BSOD.
Uninstalled old version and rebooted. Didn't uninstall old Tools (2010). When installing new 2011 upgrade version got a warning that old tools wouldn't work and would need an upgrade. Continued with installation.
After inputing both new and old serial numbers, it proceeded. At the end (I suppose), I got a BSOD with snapman.sys and "Page fault in non-paged area."
Every reboot after that has resulting in the same BSOD when getting to the log-on screen.
I can boot into safe mode with networking.
Searching for "snapman.sys" found two versions:
Snapman in C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE\Files\Drivers
version 3.8.0.517 (Date 2/8/2010)
Snapman in C:\Windows\System32\drivers
version 3.10.0.546
Crash report as follows:

Hello Stephan,
Thank you very much for posting. I will definitely help you.
This issue is caused by incompatibility between our software and Dataram RAMDisk application.
At the moment, the only workaround is not to use Dataram RAMDisk, however, our Development team is aware of this problem and the fix will be available in Update 1.
I was able to find your existing case in our database and our Expert support engineer provided you with the same information.
Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience and if you have additional questions, please let me know.
Thank you.

Another user reporting the occurrence of a BSOD (snapman.sys) and Acronis 2011 apparently due to Dataram RAMDisk.
I really hope that
a) this can be fixed
b) that there isn't some other component creating a BSOD

I see that development has already indicated that they are working on this and that they have already scheduled that it will be in the next update.
The stand-alone CD version does work, obviously, since it doesn't use Windows. You can download an image directly from your account page, which was a nice surprise for me, since I couldn't install it to generate the disk.
Support indicated to me that the DataRam incompatibility affects all their products, and therefore they consider it an important item to fix. I believe the word used in the email to me was "major". So, I certainly expect them to fix it. :)
I happen to have an SSD, so using a ramdisk for Firefox, etc. is something I'm anxious to get back to using. It makes a significant difference when opening 10-20 tabs simultaneously (my normal workflow).

Attempted to install the trial. Never completed the install, but got plenty of bsod's
So apparently the issue still exists in build 12497 of Backup & Recovery Workstation (10.0.12497). I do use the ramdisk by dataram. Fortunately don't rely on backups performed within windows for my backup strategy.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your posts. I will do my best to assist you.
The issue with Dataram RAMDisk will be addressed in Update 1 which we are close to releasing.
Dr. Proz, in order to understand what exactly causes the BSOD, we need to know the contents of the BSOD message and study Windows mini-dumps.
M andrews, I have checked our resources and we do not have any reports about Dataram RAMDisk issues with Acronis Backup and Recovery 10. It will really help to understand the problem if you could provide me with the contents of the BSOD message and Windows mini-dumps.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Anton, your link above says the conflict with Dataram's ramdisk applies to all Acronis backup software;
"This article applies to:
* All Acronis Backup Software"
At present, I've restored an image made just prior to testing your software. I will go ahead and uninstall the ramdisk and attempt to try the trial again. If it doesn't crash, then there's clearly a conflict between the two. If it still crashes, well, i'm at a loss then.

Anton,
Just tested this out.
1) Stopped the ramdisk service
2) Uninstalled the ramdisk software
3) Rebooted
4) Installed Acronis Backup and Recovery Workstation 10.0.12497 - installed successfully, no BSOD's
5) rebooted
6) Installed the ramdisk again, started the service
7) Both B&R and ramdisk functioned ok
8) Rebooted
9) Windows never finished loading --- BSOD!
Just before the system BSOD'd, I saw something pertaining to snapman.sys on the blue screen.
From reading the posts, it seems this issue has been on going since at least middle of October 2010. I'd hope by now this would be resolved. I'd love to provide you the crash dump files, but I need a functioning system here. It's quite a task to pull 'em from a system I can't even boot.

Hello M andrews,
Thank you for the follow-up.
I am sorry about the confusion, the information in my last post is not entirely correct. I will send a request to our KB team to get this article updated with the new information.
This issue has been resolved in Acronis True Image 2011 Home, build 6538.
The fix for Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 will be implemented in Update 4, but in the meantime, there is a SnapApi update that fixes this issue. I will send it to you in a few minutes via a private message.
Let me know if you have additional questions please.
Thank you.

Anton, update received, thanks!
Given there's no instructions in the archive, I assume this needs to be installed prior to installation of the ramdisk driver?

Dear M andrews,
Thank you for replying.
There is no specific order actually, since you installed the ramdisk driver from your post, I assumed that you have not uninstalled it.
If you need additional assistance please let me know.
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Anton
There is an order required to install the SnapApi update (for addressing the DataRam ramdisk incompatibility) - if you don't install it in a correct way, you will get locked out of your system due to an unfixable BSOD (it is Acronis' responsibility to convey this correct method).
Secondly I did install the SnapApi update (after figuring out the order) and it worded so well (no BSOD) that it crashed Acronis 2011 on every attempted start of the program.
I've been a long user of Acronis products and have many licenses, however, I have decided to move on to another backup solution as that I can no longer condone the ongoing BSOD or instabilities associated with this product line; there have been significant problems in the past with this product line, many of which have been rectified and some which have not, but many others have been introduced along the way --- it is an ongoing apparent problem.
