Installing True Image 2015 on top of previous version crashes Windows 7 on reboot

Thread needs solution

I purchased True Image 2015 as an upgrade to True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack. I installed it on top of the old program (as instructed), and on reboot the computer crashed (BSOD) on boot. The blue screen flashed by too fast to read codes. A Windows Automated Repair failed to identify or repair the problem. Fortunately I created a restore point just before installation (which should create one, but does NOT!!), and was able to restore Windows functionality. I then repeated the whole process -- same result. Finally, I uninstalled Acronis 2012, used the cleanup tool to get rid of traces and services, and installed 2015. Now it works, but I see no substantial improvement over 2012. It was necessary to add back previous backups, since all record of them now vanished. Some features (like the selective removal of old backup files to make space) are gone entirely. This was a disaster.

All of this happened on TWO SEPARATE COMPUTERS (my wife's at home & mine in the office). Both run Windows 7 Pro x64, fully updated. Both are powerful machines with lots of memory (one Dell Optiplex 780 and one Optiplex 9010), but they harbor somewhat different applications and user practices differ widely. I am surprised this problem has not been reported already.

On my wife's computer, in the end I used the system restore point (the one I created manually since Acronis installation does not) to revert to True Image Home 2012 with Plus Pack. This seems safer and stabler. I may eventually do the same with my office computer, but unfortunately I’ve made several changes since then and they would all be lost with a system restore. A refund would seem to be in order.

Seems like quality control at Acronis has gone to hell.
