Insufficient space in target partition

Thread needs solution

I have windows 7 home version and my Acronis True Image 2012 worked well until recently.

When I attempted to recover my operating  C drive partition, I get a message stating insufficient space in target partition.

I googled "Acronis True Image 2012 insufficient space in target petition" and discovered this is a common issue but no real solution.  I get this same message on other partitions.  I tried deleting a partition with a 3 pass clean reformat but that did not help.

I am afraid to upgrade my Acronis True Image out of fear of getting the same message and since this is a common problem.  I need some clues on how to troubleshoot.  My last resort is to give up using Acronis.    To back up my system and data, I will backup to another hard drive instead of using a buggy software to recover my system and data,

Victor, welcome to these User Forums.

I have not encountered any issues with 'insufficient space in target partition' over the years that I have been using different versions of ATI (going back to version 9.0 and currently using 2018).  It is not an issue that I recall seeing here in the forums over the last couple of years at least.

How are you attempting to do this recovery of your OS C: partition?
Is this from starting from within Windows, or are you using the Acronis Rescue media to boot your computer?

What is the size of your target disk drive and the size(s) of the partitions on that drive?
What is the size of the backup image file that you are attempting to recover from?

One potential issue could be if your backup was created using Sector-by-Sector mode, either by choice, or forced due to drive errors being encountered?  This would require that the exact same or a larger size be available to restore to because the recovery would also need to be performed using Sector-by-Sector mode.

Another point to be careful of is that drive / partition letters can change when using the Rescue Media, so you need to ensure that you are selecting the correct target location.  I make a point of naming my partitions to make this type of activity much easier.
