Is it safe to delete old back-up files

Thread needs solution

I am running 2014 True image. I am backing up since 2011 and I want to delete several year old back-ups. Is it safe to delete year old back-ups? I have right now 5.4 TB back-up

It depends!

Do the very old backup files belong to any backup tasks shown in your ATI 2014 GUI listing of backups?

If they do, then you should use the backup task options to automatically clean up unwanted backups based either on age (number of days) or quantity (number stored).

If the old backup files are orphans belonging to long deleted backup tasks, then there should be no issue with deleting them!

Hello everyone!

In addition to what Steve correctly mentioned, I would like to emphasize the importance of not deleting backups manually in the storage. Please ensure that you delete them using the backup console, as deleting them manually may result in a break in the backup chain.

Best regards.
