Just bought 2013 + Plus pack - How do I backup my programs?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am completely new at this and I need some help.

I have two laptops - both Lenovo X1 Carbons - slightly different configuration.

The first 1 has some OS issues which require a clear re-install.

I'm trying to move from all the programs from laptop A to Laptop B, test the migration, and then wipe laptop A, reinstall the OS and move from the stuff back from B to A (or just recover from the same acronis backups)

However, call me a dodo, but for the life of me I cant tell where I can make backup of my applications & files ? No where does it explicitly say "Choose the programs you wish to backup"..

I'd appreciate any help. Sorry for being a newb.

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

With True Image you can do one of two things - image files and folders which are data files and those rare programs that don't have entries in registry or actually image your disk or partition. If you are just wanting to 'copy' music, videos, pictures, text files databases etc then this would eb done with the Files and Folders backup option. However, I think you are hoping to copy programs themselves back and forth and that won't work due to Windows requiring registry entries.

Imaging and restoring isn't a problem because everything on the disk or partition including the OS is imaged, which would mean your faulty OS would also be in the image.

Depending on what is causing your OS problem, one option would be to image your good machine - restore that to your faulty OS and then reconfigure to bring it in to line with your current laptop that has the faulty OS (depends on what you mean by different configuration). Your other possible option would be to image the OK laptop as above using the complete disk option then, copy your program folders over to the OK laptop and then copy the registry over - this may or may not work - depending on your setup.

Did that answer your question or did I misunderstand what you are hoping to do?
