Just installed ATI 2010: what's this moving partition business?

Thread needs solution

I'm coming from ATI 9.0 and I just installed ATI 2010 and I clicked update thinking it would update the application itself but instead it asked to reboot and started moving partitions and doing something else. I feel a bit uneasy not knowing what it did, can anyone explain that to me?

I simply want to use Acronis True Image to create manual backups and don't want any recovery partitions, etc. to be created. Can someone tell me how to set it up in this mode? I notice that there is some Acronis background process always running which I'd rather not have running.

Thanks.

It seems like this might be due to Acronis creating a secure zone. I removed the secure zone but I have 30 GB unallocated at the end of my hard drive. I don't think this space was unallocated before I installed Acronis so I imagine that is what it did with moving partitions around. Can someone confirm this? If true, this is really bad on Acronis' part.

From within TrueImage, recreate the secure zone again in the 30GB space. Then, from within TrueImage, use TrueInmage to delete the secure zone and TrueImage will ask you where you want to re-assign the resulting unallocated space.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I was doing this on a friend's brand new HP PC and was doubtful it came with this unallocated space. It has a filesystem partition and a recovery partition and this unallocated space which I suspected came from Acronis. I still wish Acronis would warn you and ask you for confirmation before messing with partitions on my drive.

You are the first person (I believe) to report such a thing occuring. By default TI doesn't create Secure Zones, it is a manual selection.

Can you recall any other problems when installing True Image?

What I did was click "Update" on the main Acronis True Image home screen thinking it was going to update Acronis True Image itself. Instead it asked me if I wanted to reboot and I said "OK" and then it started moving partitions and I guess creating the secure zone partition. The "Update" I clicked was associated with some other feature I guess but I am not sure exactly what.
