Just upgraded, Several Questions

Thread needs solution

2011 Questions:

I have been holding off on upgrading from 2009 due to some of the problem posts I’ve seen here. However, I’m happy to report that, after using Revo to uninstall 2009 from Win7u x64, all is well. I do have a few problems and questions, as outlined below. Obviously, they will relate only to build 5519. I installed last night and have run and restored several images successfully:

1)      New Build: It has been posted that build 6574 has been released, yet installing the purchased & downloaded ATIH 2011 and allowing it to check for newer versions during the install process results in installing only build 5519. Registering the product and checking for updates on my account’s registered product page shows only 5519.

This sticky post:

…states its release as of 11/25, but gives no download link. So, what’s the deal? Has it been pulled? If this new build is Available, am I ill advised to install it?

2)      Nonstop Backup: It seems it is turned on by default. The only way I could turn it off was to turn off the services and the startup option in MSconfig. OK, at least I got it off, but if I decide to use it intermittently, turning services and startup entries off and on could become tedious.

3)      Main Screen: I keep many backups on my system. I don’t want to see them all, yet 5519 scans all of my partitions and lists every single image on the main screen, where I can tediously remove them ONE BY ONE. No option to multi-select and remove in one fell swoop. Ideally, I shouldn’t have to remove them. I should be able to add only the images I wish to see. It would be nice to be able to customize the interface. Remove some items, add others.

4)       Backup listing scheme: Really? Big, ugly bars? Making those of us with many images scroll several times to see them all? I understand that I can click on browse, but do I really have to maintain and cull the main screen to obtain a clean and efficient ‘Main Screen’? How about options to see a Details view on the main screen, rather than Scroll Hell? I read that 6574 will allow for various sorts. I hope it includes various views?

5)      Backup locations: Why does ATIH 5519 list a ‘My Backups’ location on every single partition? I have 12 partitions on this particular machine. Another exercise in scrolling to the bottom of 12 entries to get to browse, simply so that I can assign my partition images to my backup partition. Is there a global setting that will allow me to set the default image location and remove all these silly ‘My Backups’ entries? Does such a great program really need to be ‘dumbed down’ this much? How about an Advanced Interface for those of us who aren’t complete idiots?

6)      Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Disk and Partition settings are global, and not limited to each backup?

All of the above said (and sarcasm aside…no offense to anyone, it’s just how I sometimes make my point), I’m impressed. I’m impressed with the performance, the fact that the install didn’t hose my system or that I didn’t have to jump through hoops to get through it (uninstalling 2009 with REVO may have expedited the process…) and, aside from the above mentioned items, I think I’m going to be quite happy with this version.

I will admit that, after installing and uninstalling 2010 and reading the complaints about 2011, I was discouraged to think that I might have to go on the hunt for a new imaging software to meet my needs. I’ve been using Acronis for many years and am happy that the possibility of many more exists. Thanks, Acronis.

There also seems to be no way to change the order of the backups listed on the main screen. Intuitively, I tried to drag them to the order I need, but no go.

1. The build 6574 has been withdrawn. Either use as is or use a prior backup and restore you system back to when it was 5519. Which you do depends upon how 6574 is reacting on your machine.

2. As suggest by user TrueGreen, this was his suggestion
"To disable non stop backup go to "services" and click on non stop backup. Then click on "stop service". Then double click on non stop backup and open the "start up type" dropdown window. Select disable. " If the service is disabled, this should suffice to cause the program not to run.

3. The new release will enable you to make one mouse click or to remove all your backup from your "MyBackups" task list. It also has added sorting by name or date or size , etc.

4. I also have 14 partitions scattered among 5 disks. I switch to disk mode and all my backups are disk option backups so I am not bothered with picking a single or multiple partitions. I am not aware of any changes or any way of not having all partitions showing. I suggest you add your suggestion to the wish list on the main forum page.

5. We stuck with them although suggestion have been submitted to allow the user to set their own default folder. Who know when. Add this to your wish list submission.

6. That may depend upon which specifics you are referring to. There have been complaints about backup settings default settings not being retained. When TrueImage shows my partitions inside a backup or restore, I modify the display screen so the partition number, starting sector, ending sector are displayed and these changes will hold until I change them later--which I never do. If these changes are made when booted to the CD, the display changes only hold for the single session.

7. Revo does well and the new TI 2011 cleanup utility also does very well.

8. Suggest you visit this link and post your suggestion for improvements. They will NOT be seen inside this posting.
