keyboard not working with rescue media

I downloaded a trial of ATI 2014 because I need to restore an old image made with ATI Home 12 and the keyboard doesn't work with the Home 12 edition rescue media. I am finding that it also doesn't work with the 2014 edition rescue media. I searched the forums and these issues seem to be related to wireless keyboards, but mine is USB. I am stuck and would appreciate any insight into this issue. I find this odd because I am pretty sure that I used the rescue media to make the backup and would have used the keyboard. I have tried at least 10 times, though.
