LAN connection speed drops to 10Mbps during backup

Thread needs solution

Problem: Ethernet connection speed reported by Win 7 is 1Gbps when backup starts, but later drops to 10Mbps (after backing up ~100Gbytes).

Software: ATI Home 2011 Build 6868, Disk backup (same with file backup)

OS: Win 7 64-bit

Backup destination: Netgear ReadyNAS Raid on LAN

Workaround: unplugging and replugging the Ethernet cable after the connection speed drops restores the connection speed to 1Gbps (reported by Win 7). TI complains and either aborts the backup or resumes and finishes at 1Gbps.

The workaround is not practical, hence I am looking for a true fix for the problem.

Many thanks for suggestions.

Bernhard

P.S. Should I log an "official support request"? They cost, but if this resolves the issue I would not mind.

Bernhard,

Your ethernet adapter is probably set up to autonegotiate the link speed.

Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
Right click on the adapter and click on configure. Check the advanced settings. Click on Link Speed and Duplex and choose the speed. While you are at it, disable ipv4 chcksum offload.
Then press control alt delete, launch task manager, click on the networking tab and leave it open.
Once this is done, using Windows Explorer, try to copy a very large file to your network location.
Look at the network traffic. If it saturates your bandwidth you are in good shape.
Try ATI backup again.
