Large files and Non-Stop Backup

Thread needs solution

I ran into a problem with Non-Stop Backup that I was able to solve, but I figured I should share the solution. Short summary: the suspect is a 9GB file.

I noticed that Non-Stop Backup had stopped, so I rebooted. (When will Acronis fix this issue, by the way?) But when the system came up, Non-Stop Backup would not start. Or rather it would spin for a while, and then stop.

In the past when I have had similar problems, I have managed to resolved by deleting the backup definition and entering a new one, but this time this did not help.

In the Windows event log I had this error:

Fault offset: 0x000046b4
Faulting process id: 0x890
Faulting application start time: 0x01cff07a82030433
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\CDP\afcdpsrv.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6229_none_d089f796442de10e\MSVCR80.dll
Report Id: c707e3ff-5c6e-11e4-95ae-005056c00008

which was not particularly informative.

In C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\afcdpsrv.log I found this message:

Code: 0x1703E8 tag: 0xB7B66C3504903184 message: Internal error in library. Probably the stream is corrupted.

I found a few messages with this error message on the Acronis forums, but nothing that seemed to fit.

But then it occurred to me that I had take a backup of an SQL Server database on Friday, the day before Non-Stop Backup had stopped working. This file was over 9 GB in size. As I had taken this backup to copy the database to another server, I did not need the backup anymore and deleted the file. Then I started non-stop backup. And this time it worked!

Interesting enough, there is a 5GB in the same folder, and this file does not present a challenge for Non-Stop Backup, it seems.

Of course, it may be something else with this files and causes Non-Stop Backup to choke.
