on-line backup painfully slow
I just upgraded to True Image 2013 and was excited to find that I can now back up my partition(s) to a free cloud site. Hallelujah! My first attempt was to back up OS, Program Files and Data - a total of about 45 Gigabytes. All went quite well until the estimate of time to complete the task. Four days and 18 hours! So I terminated that task and decided to only download a almost entirely clean, new install of the partition that contains nothing but Windows 7 operating system. Now the estimate is about 1 day and 22 hours! Wow! I had just completed downloading the same partition to a USB hard drive and it took less than 9 minutes. I am using ADSL wideband and it usually runs blazingly fast. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the cost of doing business on the Internet?

Check with your Internet provider to find your data UPLOAD speed. Most providers give very fast download speeds but severely throttle back the upload speed to prevent clients from acting as a "Servers". (There are a number of free speed test applications on the Internet that will test your Upload and Download speeds.)
I am having a problem that is possibly related: After the initial upload of my data the upload time dropped to less than 1 hour. I noticed, however, that the time spent "consolidating archives" was increasing geometrically every time I did a backup. (it is now over 5 hours.) You might want to check if you are having a similar problem. Click on the "gear" at the right end of your online backup in the Acronis GUI and select View Log. The log contains start and end times for each backup activity.

The time it takes to back up to the Acronis Cloud will depend on the upstream speed of your internet connection (which will be much slower than your USB connection rate). The time estimates will not be accurate until at least 10 percent of the backup has taken place, and even then they may be off by a good margin. The Acronis Cloud service is not free, only for the first 30 days.

This is very true. In fact, the OP says he has an ADSL connection. "ADSL" stands for Asynchronous DSL, "Asynchronous" meaning that upload and download are very different speeds. Often a fast 10 Mb/sec download is paired with 1 Mb/sec or even 700 kb/sec upload.

Hello Acronis fellow users,
I am registered user of Acronis True Image 2014 and I am using an external drive for backup.
I am using cable wideband and it usually runs very fast, at around 85 Mbps for downloading and 1.9 Mbps for uploading. My OS is Windows 8.1 and I backup usually round 40 GB.
After my last backup I was tempted to spend $30 for a one year usage of Acronis Cloud at 50 GB.
I have expected a fast upload but not five days !t!!!!
I am of opinion that the Acronis service should have warned its' users of the huge amount of the time to be spent in the upload !!!
I have stopped using the Acronis Cloud and expect (????) Acronis to re-fund the $30.
Incidentally, do the other Cloud services (Icloud etc.) have the same problem ?

please contact our support so that your refund request is considered.
However, I would suggest you to familiarize yourself with best practices from this acrticle first.
The thing is that backup speed highly depends on Internet providers, and not only on your immediate one. There can be some "bottlenecks" on the way from your server to our datacenter and they don't allow backup to be faster.
Our datacenters are located in Missouri and Massachusetts, United States and in Strasbourg, France.
Your backups are stored in Missouri.
Please use the following tool to check your upload speed and select any city in Missouri as a destination.
If the resulting speed is very different from which our product reports our support team will be glad to help you with investigation.

I also just upgraded and paid ~$100 for 3 computer and cloud storage. Backing up to my NAS (local) is fast. Backing up to Acronis Cloud is unusable. I even upgraded my ISP speeds to maximize upload times.
After much experimentation, and monitoring via Task Manager, I see that the longer True Image runs, the slower data is put out to the Acronis Cloud servers. Or perhaps the Acronis Cloud service gates the upload speeds. In 4 1/2 hours, it has moved only 3.01GB upstream on a connection that runs at 2.25gb per hour (5+mbs). I have speed tested the connection and even with True Image running there is no impact, since True Image is simply not using the bandwidth available. I suspect the upstream servers are meager and gating the uploads.
So, for local backups, not so bad. But the cloud service is unusable. They basically just took my extra money. You are better off finding another cloud storage service, and pushing local backups yourself. Which means, well, another solution is probably indicated.
I feel I was ripped off. Also, I do IT and program for a living. I do get this stuff and I have spent days doing my testing.

I too have just responded to the email offer offering unlimited cloud storage upgrade. A back up which takes about 60 minutes to complete to an external hard drive is suggesting between 13 and 14 days to complete. This is about 250 gb of data and I am aware my upload speeds (medium fibre) are a lot slower that download. I was expecting a complete backup to take several hours to the cloud but two weeks makes it totally pointless. I have made direct contact to express my point of view and ask to cancel the cloud subscription andI will stay with using an extra hard drive for backups. However not sure contacts methods I tried are getting through.

I meant to add. The cloud system needs to be avoided if you are thinking about it. I had had found and read some of the previous comments I would have never upgraded to the cloud storage. I am letting the backup run for the time being just to see how land it does take and will post details if I ever reach the end.

After the initial complete system backup, does every new backup take as long? In other words, does a new backup record and/or delete only what has changed since the last backup hence saving time?

Question answered via PM from Anna.Trifonova: "... only first one is a full backup, all subsequent versions are incremental => take less time because only changes to the files are saved."

Just subscribed to cloud yesterday. I had read the manuals and marketing literature and thought I understood what I was spending more than the cost of a 1TB hard disk would be a better choice. One day later I'm not at all impressed with this. Backing up my wireless connected laptop is forecast to take something over 20-days!! After it ran for 4-5 hours I needed to pause the process... so I clicked the active area which contains "|| Suspend", expecting the backup to be paused. Instead, it seems to have been cancelled. Is this actually two "buttons" or one? Doesn't suspend mean pause? Since my intuition of how this would work was obviously in error, I searched the true image manual... the word "Suspend" exists in one spot which doesn't explain anything relevant to it's operation. Thinking it might be in the cloud manual, I searched in that document... no relevant description of "Suspend" there either. I'm now 16-hours into a new backup and have accrued 3.7GB of the 214GB backup. I would have expected the backup to be at least as fast as FTP... it's not even close. The 2GB of cloud storage from the first (apparently cancelled) backup is there, but I see no way to investigate/delete it while the current backup is running. At this performance, even with only incremental backups after this initial full backup, I see no hope of this product keeping up with the changes I make routinely. Did I make a bad investment or am I missing somethign big time?

since there have been no replies saying I'm missing something, I guess it's prudent to request a refund.
FWIW, I backed up my laptop to a external USB hard disk in a little over 3-hours... Acronis is top notch for that use/configuration.
I had tried the cloud backup because I service several small commercial offices (less than a dozen PCs each) who had requested I install Cloud Backup for them... they had heard it was "great". After sharing my experience, they've all changed their minds.

While working with different cloud's services, this is the only cloud I paid for and none of my backups uploaded. My OS is win 7 BU around 32 GB. after few days it always seems to stuck and has to be restarted. The on-line backup is not just painfully slow, it's not useful.
I trust acronis for local backups, but I'm very disappointed from the cloud service.

I'm having the same problem since upgrading to 2016. Setting aside other failing backup issues with the 2016 upgrade resolved by using the support chat with remote connection to sort out licensing certificates i've spent around 3 weeks trying to complete a backup. Everymorning I check and it says one or two more days!!!
It's not supposed to be a first backup, but after as backups had been failing since February when upgrading to 2016 it it needed to backup around 50gB.
My uplink seems stuck at 150kb/s max sometimes 50kb/s. Acronis support suggested increasing priority to high - I assume they mean in Windows, but this makes no difference. Now it might be my ISP but I have no problem uploading large files to Dropbox in a relatively short time. So I think there may be some throttling at the Acronis end... any comments on this Acronis? Why is it the first few gB went so fast and then it slowed right down?
But as a cloud backup the 2016 upgrade isn't that great so far (:

I have been testing internet speed from my office to Columbia, MO which is hosted by Socket on speedtest.net as you suggested in one of your replies in Acronis forum.
This result shows me few different results, but the lowest speed I testet during few days was 136.99Mbps upload and 33,54Mbps download.
I have an backup running, I know it's a large one, but what I see is, that the upload speed in Acronis True Image 2017 backup is between 7,2Mbps and 10,0Mbps
What I then did was the below steps which I was suggested to do by Acronis Technisian, but that haven't solved this issue.
Launch Acronis True Image 2017, select the backup task and follow below steps:
1) Click on options
2) Click on ' Advanced 'tab
3) Click on 'Performance of backup operation'
4) click on 'Network connection transfer rate' and then set it to ' maximum'

Welcome to these user forums, and thank you for your observations on using the Performance options in ATIH 2017 for Cloud backups.
This particular forum is really for obsolete / very old and unsupport Acronis products so not sure how many of our 2017 users will see this advice.
There is a separate Acronis True Image 2017 Forum that deals specifically with issues / advice / questions for that product.
