Linux RAID backup

Thread needs solution

One thing I have liked about TI is you do not have to back up the free space with the data. Otherwise the backup will take a weekend to accomplish.

For my next system, I want Linux to live in a RAID 1 implemented through software (not the motherboard chipset). Would TI still let me back up only the data and not the free space?

Hello Erich!

Thank you for joining us on Forum, it's nice to have you with us! I completely understand your scenario and will be glad to provide you with an answer!

I would like to assure you that we do not expect any issues with this scenario, but everything depends on the file system you're going to have. Currently Acronis True Image Home 2010 supports ext2 and ext3 (see chapter 1.4.3 Supported file systems in the User's Guide). Unfortunately ext4 is not supported yet, though we plan to release it in future. You can find more details about ext4 support here.

In case the file system you'll be using is not Ext4, then you will be able to backup just the used space on linux partition.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
