lji - cannot access drive
Have been using TI Enterprise 9.1 for quite some time. Have external 500GB HDD and scheduled auto backup task.
Scheduled BU every other day at 2am.
Recently the task hasn't been completing. Error message: E00070021: Cannot Access Drive - cannot create the image of logical drive C; becuase it is currentl in use y running applications or the logical drive contains bad sectors.
A week or so ago, i changed the schedule to start at 3am, and it seemed to start working again. I don' t have any other 'scheduled' tasks, but NAV, or Norton System Works will run a periodic something or another.
I changed the TI options to HIGH PRIORITY, and just tried running the BU manually and got same error. External Drive has plently of open space, and XP Task Manager indicates nothing is running on C:
Ideas??

Check your drive for errors with full scan of sectors and automatic repair. Also try to disable anti-viruses temporary and backup solutions if any.

Disabling the antivirus stuff didn't seem to have any effect. I did run the Disk Drive
check and repair and it seemed to work fine - for a while at least !
The scheduler executed one additional incremental backup since the manual one
i did after the disk check and repair. Last nights backup didn't run - returned same
error - CANNOT ACCESS DRIVE.

Hello lji,
Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]
Pleease provide us with the below diagnostic files:
1) Log file of the failed operation:
- Start Acronis True Image;
- Select Tools -> Show log;
- Choose the log entry which contains errors;
- Click on the diskette icon, choose the location (folder) and save there;
- Attach the log to your next post.
2) Please download Acronis Report utility and run it, create a report and attach to your post.
This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.
Thank you.

I'm getting the same error and I also get no disk errors so it isn't that. And I also try and do a backup from a fresh reboot and nothing that I know of is running that should prevent it from processing the backup.
I've attached the files you requested.
I can restore an older backup image onto the drive and everything works fine for a few weeks. I can make backup images and the system works fine without any errors. Then all of a sudden I get the same error: (Error message: E00070021: Cannot Access Drive - cannot create the image of logical drive C; because it is currently in use running applications or the logical drive contains bad sectors.)
But again, if I restore an old image I get no bad sectors and it runs fine for a while, then I get the error again.
I also own a copy of V10 and have tried but get the error in that version as well. Any help will be appreciated.

Hello Brian Klecker,
Thank you very much for the files you provided!
I've analyzed them and haven't found any errors\bad blocks on your HDD's. So it's not a case here.
Could you please temporarily disable all antiviral, firewall and HDD scanning software and check whether issue persists?
Also, I'd recommend you to check if you can perform backup operations from CD version of our software.
Please let us know the results!
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

It seems that i need to run CHKDSK every time in order to have my scheduled backup run.
Problem is that it won't run inside Windows, so i need to 'schedule' it during next reboot, which in turn defeats the purpose of my scheduled backup.
what has changed is beyond me. my periodic backups 'used' to run without issue.
a work-around would be to be able to run chkdsk BEFORE the scheduled backup, but can't seem to figure out if this is possible or not. hate work-arounds, becuase they never really get to root cause, but at this point i'll try anything.
I've attached the file requested.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I turned off all AV software, Firewalls and all other programs. Only thing running after a fresh boot was Windows XP and Acronis. Still couldn't do an image. Same error.
Tried it from a boot disk. From boot disk I couldn't see all of my sata drives in regular mode or safe mode but was able to back up the C: drive without errors to an external drive. Image check said the image was good. Then I rebooted XP and copied the image file from the external drive to the internal drive where I keep backups.
So as we surmised, the C: drive is fine and has no errors but for some reason Acronis won't do the backup. I've been using Acronis for years and it's done good job for me until now.
Same as the guy above, I need to be able to run scheduled image backups automatically so please figure out what is wrong with the program that it is preventing it from running correctly.
Thanks.

With everything shut down except for XP and Acronis (after a clean boot) still got same error.
Was able to backup using boot disk.
But I need to be able to backup automatically. There's obviously a glitch in Acronis if it won't let the backup happen with normal XP mode.

Hello lji,
Thank you for using Acronis Products
The issue can appear on the machines that have a hidden diagnostic partition (e.g., EISA) on the hard disk. To solve the issue please update SnapAPI drivers using the following KB article

Just thought i'd let you know that the SnapAPI update instructions did the trick!! Can't say it
was all that obvoius, but i'm back up and running with the auto-backups.
Any ideas what i might have done to cause the problem?
Appreciate the support - this fix brings Acronis back into my preferred packages.
Thx
