Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

Thread needs solution

I am trying to take the first image of my WinXP SP3 system with TI Home 2010 installed. I am trying to backup the C drive to a NAS box on the network. The desktop is on a workgroup while the NAS box is on a domain. I successfully configure the task. I've entered my login on the desktop for the task to run. I am an administrator on the Win XP box. When I select the target location I am propted for a login. I provide the domain\administrator login and password. This works and I can select the public directory on the NAS box for the target location. When I click on save I get another pop-up asking me to verify the credentials of the target directory on the NAS. I enter them as domain\administrator and they are successful at connecting.

When the task runs it fails with the unknown user name and password i the logfile under this task.

Please help!!

Can Acronis Home 2010 backup to a NAS box and if so how do you provide alternate credentials???

Hello Joe,

Let me assist you.

If you schedule a task in an Acronis backup product to save an image to a NAS drive and you have mapped it, you may find that the operation does not succeed sometimes, and sometimes it does.

When you map a drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. The Acronis product runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off).

Please use a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive.

You can also use a pre backup command to mount the mapped drive for an Acronis scheduled task:

  1. Download map.drive.txt;
  2. Follow instructions in Using Batch Files in Acronis True Image.

Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

I was able to get the batch file to execute but it fails. It does not look like the batch file is executing correctly. The log shows

Created: Monday, July 19, 2010 9:30:20 AM

Details: At least one of the execution arguments of the child process is invalid.

Here is the syntax for the command inside the batch file... (not the correct password)

NET USE N: \\192.168.1.200\public\ rockies2005 /USER:icw\administrator

If I try to type this directly into a DOS window it fails with an error 67.

I then went into the task and changed the backup path to N:9100 weekly image.tib
