Lossless compression of wave (.WAV) files

Thread needs solution

Will backing up raw .WAV files, with compression enabled in ATI, result in a 100% lossless restore?

I want to make sure that the restored data contains all the information that was in the original .WAV file and no alteration took place.

It will be lossless. When converting a wav file to an MP3 for example the compression algorithm removes the "slightly useless" data and throws it away and there is no way to get it back. When TI and similar programs compress a file they use in various mechanisms to represent the data which on restoration put the data back to exactly what it was.

If you want more confirmation, calculate the checksum of a wav file with a free checksum calculator you can find on the web. Backup the file with compression and then restore it. Re-run the checksum calculator and you'll see the value is the same.

Thanks, Seekforever. The checksum test is a good idea, which I think I will do. Just for peace of mind.
