Lost Half of HDD on Restore
I had occasion to reinstall an image from 2008.
The image was made from a 160GB disc and the restore was to the same disc.
After the restore the disc had only some 56GB of space. What happened to the other half of the disc, and how do I recover the lost space?
As far as I can tell, everything works as before after updating. Fortunately most of the data and applications are on the second HDD.
Regards,

Welcome to Acronis Forum, we are happy to greet you here!
Thank you for finding time to open the thread and report about the issue! I will be glad to assist you with it.
Unfortunately due to the lack of information it is hard to idenify the exact cause of the problem, so we will need some additional information. But before we get started, I would suggest you to do the following:
- Restore the image using the media built on another loader (I have just forwarded it to you via e-mail)
- Restore not the entire archive but in partition by partition mode, resizing a bit each drive you are recovering
Should the issue persist, please obtain the following diagnostic information:
- The size of the backup created
- Recovery log
- The screenshot of the hard drives in the Disk Management (Start -> Right click on My computer -> Manage -> Disk Management)
After that please kindly register your license here and contact support directly. I would appreciate if you could kindly let us know the case number so that we could make sure it is handled in a proper way and in timely manner.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!
Thank you for your reply, Yana and thank you also for the alternative loader which is downloading now.
I attach a .JPG of the Disc Management Panel as it is -at the present moment-. That may or may not be relevant.
Is it possible that the re-install went into the partition allocated to the Acronis Secure Zone?
Regards,
Jim.

Further to this:
I did a restore using the new loader.
I don't understand the instruction to "restore not the entire archive, but in partition-by-partition mode".
There are only two partitions in the backup, the main partition and the Acronis SZ one (which holds nothing of any importance now).
I completed the restore, but still have only a 60GB or so main partition on C:
The size of the backup created: 4,737,044,480 bytes.
Recovery log: attached as Log.log, but it is an .xml file. (What is the point in having logs in .XML if you can't upload them as such? !!)
Screenshot of Disc Management: attached.
Note: it was only possible to complete the restore using the Advanced mode in the final screen. Without [ ] Advanced being ticked I could not complete the restore as the [ OK ] box at the end of the screen was greyed out.

Further again to this:
"Should you need anything else ... feel free to contact us ... Acronis Customer Central,
www.acronis.com/support."
How?
I can see no way of contacting Acronis Customer Central. If it's available it's well hidden. In fact there is in practice no REAL support other than the forums. Before buying a product it may well be an idea in the future to look at their support arrangements first!

Jim, clarify something ... you said the restore was made to the same 160Gig drive. Your attachment, with the SZ on the drive, shows what would be a 120Gig drive.
I'm also puzzled by what you asked here: "the re-install went into the partition allocated to the Acronis Secure Zone?" Are you saying the re-install made the SZ which you didn't have before?
From what I see in your Disk Management, the drive is as it should be if you're booting from Disk 0.

Hello all,
Thank you for your messages. I will do my best to assist you.
DwnNDrty, thank you very much for your assistance!
Jim Dunnett, I am terribly sorry! It is not clear at the moment why this issue is occurring. I would like to elaborate Yana's post a little bit further.
I am very sorry for the inconvenience when you tried to get support from our website. You can do it the following way:
Please use the "Get Assistance - Start here" wizard under the "Contact Support" section. Please make sure you are on the correct local website - use the Country/Language drop-down on the top. It is recommended to login at the right side of the page before starting the "Get Assistance - Start here" wizard - you will get more options when the wizard knows who you are and what products and support programs you have. After pressing start here you will see the following wizard.
After starting the wizard - follow the steps and you will be suggested several ways to get in touch with Support (this may include Phone, Chat, E-mail, Forum support).
If you do not have a phone or chat support visible anywhere, most likely you free 30 days of support have expired. You will need to purchase Per Incident Support.
Please go to Under My Products & Downloads click the support tab to purchase the program:
After that you will have access either to our chat or phone support.

It's a 120 GB drive, apologies.
Re SZ: That partition is around the same size as the main partition I'm left with. I'm afraid my knowledge of partitioning is close to nil.
I'm booting from disc 0. C:
If you mean that the 60.54 NTFS partition plus the Acronis SZ FAT32 partition add up to around 111.8 GB, then I begin to see what you mean, although I had never intended that the Acronis Secure Zone should take up nearly half the disc. I'll see if I can resize it.
There is also a 24M unallocable partition. Where did that come from and can I get rid of it?

I think this issue has been resolved: the NTFS+FAT32 partitions add up to about 111.8 GB, which is fair enough for a 120GB drive. I mistakenly said it was a 160GB, for which I apologise.
I hadn't intended that the SZ partition should take up half the drive; I will try to resize that. Done. 110,758,965,248 bytes free!!!
----------
My local website acronis.uk only sells things, it doesn't do support.
I will save and print your post about support, for future reference should I need it. Thank you for that.
Thanks & regards (plus apologies for my inadequate arithmetic)
Jim.
