Lost license key and TIH "specify volume 1 errors"

Hi, I purchased TIH 2009 a year ago for a client and installed it and set up a schedule of tasks.
He's been getting this silly error on every task "specify volume 1", so I recreated them, without success.

I've found out he never registered the product and cannot find the CD package that I supplied courtesy of Amazon uk. I still have my email receipt though!

I now wish to download updates as part of the repair process, but the license number does not appear in Help, about - regardless of what your website indicates.

So I have his PC in my workshop with a piece of software I'm unable to update, even though it is paid for and properly installed.

Could anyone advise how I may retrieve the license key, e.g. does it reside in the registry?
