Low on backup space

Thread needs solution

When my backup drive gets full, can I manually delete old strings, and still be able to run the backup.  For example, here's what my backup drive looked like recently.  Can I delete the files prior to the most recent "full" backup safely?  I'm worried that the automatic clean up rules I set aren't taking effect.

Jon, automatic cleanup is the recommended method of managing your backup version chains but how this works depends on what rules you have selected.

For example: If you select to Store no more that X recent version chains, then the oldest version chain will only be deleted when you create the first new full backup for the X+1 version.  Acronis will always want to successfully create the next full backup before deleting an older version chain.

If you set an age for version chains in the cleanup rules, then that age does not start counting up until the next full backup has been created, i.e when the version chain is complete.  While the version chain is still open the age will remain at 0.

You can manually delete complete version chains, i.e. from your image, all files with _b1_ in the name, but if you do so, then you must run a Validation for the backup task that created the files, this is needed to reconcile the Acronis Database files with the remaining backup files still present on the target drive.
