Machine startup delayed, TIM service timed out

Thread needs solution

About 50% of time, machine System Log reports errors in True Vector Internet Monitor Service after startup - "TIM Service timed out (30,000 millisecs) waiting for TIM to connect",  followed by - "TIM Service failed to start due to following error - The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

The time to startup has extended accordingly.  First started happening on 7 Jun 09, progressively more frequent  until by early July symptom occurring every 2 or 3 days, now almost daily and sometimes twice daily.

Machine is homebuilt Intel Core 2 Duo 3.4 GHz, Asus P5KPLl-CM mobo, 2GB RAM, 1 x 250 GB + 2 x 160 GB disks,  running ATI Home 11.0 build 8.101 under WinXP Pro SP3.

I have checked Admin Tools | Services, which shows TIM service is running ( Auto start), and is dependent on  TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, and RPC and IPSEC Services which are also Autostarted and running). Should there be another TCP/IP Protocol Driver (this shows as dependency of vsdatant which shows as dependency of TIM) ?

Is True Vector part of TI 11?

TrueImageMonitor.exe is listed in C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ and installed same date as remainder of .DLL's and .EXE's there.

I'm aware that TI Monitor is part of TI, but you mentioned Vector Monitor so I thought this was a another program you were writing about.

Sorry, the Admin Tools | Services window lists the service as "TrueVector Internet Monitor Service".  I should not have left a space between "True" and "Vector".

From a quick search, TrueVector Internet Monitor seems to be part of ZoneAlarm. I don't think this service has anything to do with TI.

Hello Mac,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

True Vector Internet Monitor Service is not Acronis True Image service.

"TrueImageMonitor.exe” - Acronis True Image Monitor. This program provides the interface between running Acronis True Image tasks and the user. It allows to observe the tasks progress and cancel the running tasks. It is started when a user logs into the system and terminates when the user logs off. This program is not required by Acronis True Image to perform its tasks, and can be terminated if you think it occupies too much memory, but you will loose the ability to control running Acronis True Image tasks.

Thanks, Dmitry.  I want to continue using the TrueImageMonitor, and apologise for any feelings I hurt by referring to True Vector. That was a verbatim quote from the entry in my system Error Log.

My hope was that someone might be able to point me to a method of avoiding a 30 second delay before continuing with the startup - XP has never been noted for quick startups.  I didn't mention in my first post that the TIM is successfully started later in the sequence so I have had full functionality (as far as I can tell) despite the delay.

Yours gratefully,

Mac
