Malware bytes erased my Acronis executable and my backups are claiming they are invalid

Thread needs solution

I had – or had– Acronis 2011 and it was working like a champ. Or so I thought. I thought I had an infection on my machine and so I ran Malware Bytes which had never given me a problem previously. It found some infections and suggested that I clean/quarantine the disk to remove all infections and then reboot to ensure that they were all removed. I opted to simply remove rather than potentially harm the programs on my disk. I had been making daily backups of my C: drive to my external G: drive, as well as weekly backups to my D: internal drive and to my H: drive. When I rebooted my Aroconis icon was gone and when I searched for the program on the hard disk it and its directory had disappeared. So I figured I would simply restore from the previous evenings backup, loaded my emergency restore CD/DVD and booted to the Aroconis restore utility. It analyzed the hard disk and offered to restore from my G: to my C: drives. When I went to restore that partition it told me he could not locate the first disc in the set. I do not utilize sets but rather backup the entire partition in one operation. I am unable to read *any*of my backups. What can I do? I was able to recover everything except for my executable copy of Acronis.Help!!!

You can download a fresh copy of 2011 from your registration page and when the run the install file, it will ask to do a repair. That is one option.

Or, you can try the restore again using the CD. You should be able to do a restore of C or or both from your backups. However, the program does not make the choice nor does it offer any suggestions. It is up to the user to select the backup chain the user wants to use when making the restore. Be very careful to choose the correct destination as the drive letters may differ when using the CD as compared to what you know in Windows. Do NOT use the drive letter as a decision maker. Use the partition sizes or partition names or characteristics but do NOT use the drive letters.

If all your backup files in one folder, you can post a picture of the files and maybe we can see which has a complete set. Most certainly, you should be able to choose the full backup which was the largest in size and restore the full. Of course, the backups have to be disk/partition backups and not just files only backups.

thank you! I went to the registration page and I had to download and install the full copies of Acrronis2009, then upgrade to 2011 and then to upgrade to the plus-pack. Each installation required a reboot and a serial number. Once installed I zapped all of the old copies of my backups and then made three backups and tested/restored/recovered my disk and all was right with the world.

Again, thank you!

Ross,
In the future, you do not need to install 2009 before installing 2011. If you purchased the 2011 upgrade, you only need to install 2011 and input both the 2011 upgrade serial number and the older version (2009) serial number.
