You can also install the old drive as a slave or in the secondary channel of the new computer and copy off your data that way. Or put the old drive in an usb enclosure and do the same.

I have mounted the subject drive into a USB case.. setting jumpers to slave. I can read the disk now, and download files. I just have to go through and reinstall all the programs, settings, etc.

Hello all,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.
Yes, most probably you won't be able to use OEM version of Windows after recovery. In case of simple system transfer without Acronis Universal Restore (which is intended to replace HAL level drivers in order to recover onto dissimilar hardware), you should first prepare Windows using Microsoft System Preparation Tool (Sysprep)
Thank you.

I'm a bit lost on this discussion. I have backed up my PC with Acronis® True Image Home® version 11.0 (build 8,101), but this PC is now dying. I need to move my data to a new computer. How do I do that?
Do I have to buy a whole new license for True Image for the new computer? I had assumed that I would be able to transfer my old True Image to the new computer. If not, what do I do. With some exceptions, I need to move the My Documents backup to my new PC, as well as some data from other programs in other locations.
I have assumed that I merely need to access my backup drive and restore the specific data files I need, but after reading some of the responses here, it seems that this may not be as easy as I had thought???
Please help!

Hello all,
MudCrab and DwnNDrty, thank you very much for your assistance, you're absolutely right.
Stan, let me explain the situation for you.
- There's a possibility that you can just back up your data from the old PC and then restore it to a new one and your system will be up and running. However, we can't guarantee this, since to restore the image to a different hardware you need a special add-on for True Image that allows you to add necessary drivers for your new hardware. Unfortunately, Acronis True image 11 Home doesn't have such add-on, it was implemented only in Acronis True Image Home 2010. Please check this link for the detailed information.
- I may recommend you to move your data the following way: back up all necessary documents, music, video, Applications Settings, etc. Then install OS on the new PC from scratch, install necessary software and after that restore your backup archive.
- According Acronis Licensing policy you should use one (1) license and install one (1) copy of the software on not more than one (1) physical machine. Only if the initial machine becomes inoperative or gets replaced, you can install the software on another computer without the need of purchasing a new license. So there's no need to purchase a new license to use Acronis True Image on your new PC.
Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.
