memory could not be "written"

Thread needs solution

Hey everybody!
My father-in-law's HD crashed for few days ago but before that I had been lucky to perform some HD images copies of his whole system.
I'm been able to start up the image copy but I'm getting some message referring error "0x7ca73bb7 the memory could not be 'written'". I can not do anything but only moving the mouse all over the desktop and being stopped by this annoying message.
He was running a preinstalled copy of Windows XP Professional, and I 'm not sure that the problem itself is originated by this.
Thank you for any hint
