Memtest 86+ v5 Memory Diagnostics
Given the complexity of many software applications, including True Image, there are of course many things that can occur that can cause a program to not install or run properly. One such issue can be defective or marginal memory module(s) that fail under high stress use. A diagnostic test can be run that will stress test your memory and is available free. This is called Memtest 86+. The latest version (v5.01) was released and has been upgraded to accommodate newer systems and of course bug fixes.
It is important to note that this test will require some time to complete. I start it and let it run overnight. It will run continuously and when you decide to complete the test there should be no errors reported. To exit the test remove the CD or floppy and then press the Esc key on the keyboard. The system will re-boot. I have seen errors beginning to occur after fifteen passes. If errors show up it will be necessary to selectively remove some of the modules and run the test again to isolate the problem. This can take some time. Modules that fail the test should be replaced.
There are different files available that can be used. A zipped ISO file is available that can be used to burn a bootable CD using third party software. There also is a zipped variation that can create a bootable floppy.
I have included the change log and the readme file as attachments and a link to the web site is here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
In the future it might be prudent to check for later updates before proceeding. I have created a CD from the ISO file using Win7 Pro 64-bit with UltraISO software and booting to it v5.01 runs successfully.
Best regards,
Bruce Mahnke
