Migrating to Linux

Thread needs solution

I have used Acronis Home Image Trial version - a very satisfactory product and I will be purchasing. Before that can anyone advise if it will work in the Linux OS as well or will I have to purchase another version?
I am sampling Linux (Ubuntu) but don't know yet where I will end up.

Jeff:

TI Home 2010 is fundamentally a Windows application, but it can back up Linux partitions. If you will always have a Windows operating system on your PC then you won't have any problems backing up and restoring your Ubuntu partitions.

However, if you plan on removing Windows from your PC and running Linux exclusively, then you will need to make a bootable recovery CD. You could then run the program from the boot CD. Be aware, however, that TI Home requires an NTFS or a FAT32 partition on which to store its backup archive files. The current versions of TI are not able to store image files on Linux ext2/ext3 partitions.

Thanks Mark,
My apologies for not coming back to you sooner. Your answer covers my query adequately and I will go ahead and purchase. If I run Ubuntu permantly eventually in will be within Windows.
You have raised another question though. How do I make a bootable recovery CD? I read somewhere how it was done and although it seemed straight forward then I would not want to make a mistake.

Jeff:

There is a wizard in the program called "Bootable Media Builder" that will create a bootable CD or USB flash drive.
