Migrating Win7 HD to SSD
Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 in an ASUS Maximus Formula motherboard (no UEFI) based on a Western Digital HD (WD10EZEX, Sata-III, 7200RPM, 1Tb).
I would like to migrate it to a SSD device, for instance, SAMSUNG 840 EVO series PRO.
Can I clone my HD to that new SDD? That's the IDEAL solution to me, since I have almost 1 million files and, being a software developer, a LOT of installed softwares related to my activity (as Visual Studio, a lot of components to VS, XP virtual machine, Linux virtual machine and so forth). I'm not intended to install everything again into the SSD drive - a task to consume weeks of efforts.
So, can I clone my HD to the SDD without problems using Acronis True Image 2014?
Thanks a lot for any help.
Best regards,
David

Yes you can, I will say that you need to do some homework before you do however. Also, make certain you get a full disk backup of your existing installation for insurance.
Here is a link covering all recommended procedures for a Clone, make sure you read them thoroughly:

Here's a link to a Knowledge Base Article on Cloning:

Finally, a link to Grover's Guides where you will find a wealth of information, sort of an everything Acronis instructions some of which you may find helpful as well.

I will mention that the recommended way to transfer a system image from one disk to another is using the Disk Mode backup and restore options of TI.
Which ever you method you choose my best advice is to do the operation(s) using the bootable media disk and not the installed application.

Thank you Enchanted.
Normally when I clone my disks the own TI requires a boot. So, the disk clone is made outside Windows.
I'll read your mentioned articles carefully.
Thank you again for your efforts and detailed advice to me.
Have a nice week.
Kindest regards,
David
