Migrating to Windows 8: Transfer previous versions of microsoft office files?
I am interested in buying a new computer with Windows 8.1. I have an existing computer with Windows XP. (This one, 10 years old).
I intend to install Office Home and Business 2013 on the Windows 8 Computer. This will be a Windows 8 64-bit system.
I have lots of data files saved on External Hard Drives that were produced with the Windows XP, 32-bit system. This includes files produced with Microsoft Office 2007. (Word, Excel, Outlook etc).
With the new computer installed, I could just drag and drop files from an External Hard Drive into any location in the Windows 8 Library and into Outlook 2013, (pst files). Will those files be readable and editable or will I need to run through some compatibility fix?
Use my ATIH 2013?

Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.: no problem.
Outlook: uncertain. Better look up MS best practice for migrating from an Outlook 2007 .pst to Outlook 2013. With some transitions, you can simply launch the new Outlook and open the .pst. With others, you may need to import or do some adjustment.
You don't need ATI for that. Just copy the files using Windows Explorer or any file copy utility.

Hi John, tuttle,
John,
Don't forget your auto complete file. It's nice to have all of your previously typed addresses migrated to the new Outlook install as well.
This article applies to 2010 / 2013
See the very bottom, "Let Me Fix It Myself" Will take you 5 minutes.

Indeed. Also copy over any Word templates, toolbars, add-ins, etc. if you have any. I have a lot of work invested in mine, so I make sure that they come with me to any new installation.

Slight derail, but I am about to migrate my True Image 2013 Home (Build 6514) from an XP machine to a Windows 7 64-bit machine. Office and all other programs I'm not worried about, it's the actual TI 2013 I want to ask about.
- I still have the TI 2013 exe files and serial numbers. Do I simply copy these to the new machine and re-run the install? Or is there a different version of TI needed for Windows 7 64-bit?
- Since it's a single license I imagine I should probably have the old computer disconnected from the internet before I installing on the new machine, right? Or should I do an uninstall on the old machine beforehand?
- I know I need to create a new bootable CD, but are there any other complications I should be aware of?
Sorry, I'm sure this is basic but I didn't see a PC upgrade/migration thread. (i'll keep looking in the meantime)
Thanks,
Brian

ATI 2013 works fine on Win7. No need to copy anything to the new PC, just run the .exe installer and enter the serial #.
You will likely see the "Too many activations" message? If so, deactivate that installation, after which you'll be able to re-enter the serial number to re-activate it.

that's great. thank you.
one clarification: when you say i may need to deactivate the install, do you mean on the old machine or the new? and where is that done? i don't see it in the ATI interface anywhere.

Run the .exe installer on the new PC. If you see the warning, follow instructions on that same PC.
