Missed backup: Run when the current device is attached PROBLEM
Hello and thank you for helping me with this backup problem I am having....
I scheduled my backups to run unattended twice a month. Under "schedule your operation" I have selected the 1st and the 15th of the month to run the backups. The "backup scheme" is set as custom, differential and creating a full version after every 5 differential versions. Old cleanup rules are store no more than 2 recent version chains.
The backups are stored on an external USB hard drive. The external drive is usually plugged into the USB port on my laptop running Windows 7. However, sometimes I unplug the drive and take it to work, etc. Sometimes, I forget to plug it back in. What I want the program to do is if I forget to plug in the usb drive on the 1st or 15th to automatically run a backup the next time I plug in the drive. I thought this was possible by setting advanced settings under "schedule your operation". I have checked the following, "wake up the sleeping/hibernating computer", "prevent the computer from going to sleep/hibernate" and under "missed backup" "run when the current device is attached".
Now when I forgot to plug my usb drive in on the 15th of this month, it obviously did not do a backup. However, when I plugged the usb drive back in on the 16th and left it in for the next week, it also did not run a backup. What am I doing wrong? It should have ran the backup as soon as I plugged in the usb external drive on the 16th, correct?
Thanks again for your help!

If you edited the backup task, the function of editing may have caused TI to get confused--or the program simply may have malfunctioned. As mentioned above by MVP Colin, it may get back on schedule when the June 15 backup arrives.
Whenever a backup is missed, you can create an immediate manual backup by opening the program and selection the "Backup Now" option. Or, another easy solution is to run a manul backup by clicking on a desktop shortcut without having to open the program.
To create such a shortcut, from inside the backup task, Right click any open area or "Settings" or "Edit Setting" option. Click on the "other" option and then click on "create shortcut". This action will create a desktop shortcut with the same name as your backup task. You can always rename the shortcut if you want a different name on your desktop for this function.
To help with the issue of disk not connected, there is a couple other options.
A program which I use and find really helpful and it works well is "Drive Notify" written by forum MVP MudCrab. This comes in both free format and a paid format ($9).
Drive Notify is a program designed to display an pre-created informational screen message advising the user to connect a specific backup storage disk and the info screen will normally remain open until the correct disk is attached or user cancels the backup. If wrong disk attached, program will not recognize and will await attachment of the correct disk.
Once the correct disk is attached (or if disk pre-attached) and disk recognition verified--
...if using the paid version, the info screen will auto-close and the backup will begin. If disk was pre-attached, Operator presence not necessary as the screen will auto-close on correct disk recognition.
...if using the free version, the info screen will need operator closure before the backup will begin. If disk pre-attached, Operator presence still required for info screen closure.
The program can be downloaded from this link and configured to custom user settings such as the info message and disk identification info. Very little time needed to get this setup and configured. A link to the program and its settings is placed inside the TrueImage Pre/Post Commands option under the "Pre" settings.

Another reminder option to attach the hard drive would be to create a reminder desktop text message using Notepad and use the Windows Task Scheduler to display the reminder message (multiple times if necessary) just prior to the scheduled backup start time. I can offer some additional assistance if you want to use this option. This additional reminder could be single or additional to Drive Notify so Drive Notify would always find the disk pre-attached resulting from the action initiated via the info message.
