Missing ability to create new partition

Thread needs solution

I have a new system disk which I want to split off part into a separate partition.

I don't seem to have that ability on this Windows 7 32-bit two hard drive system. I go to "New Disk" and I see my two drives but it would only let me select the second, non-system, drive.

Workstation: Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, two hard drives
ATIH 2012 with Plus Pack, build 7199 (update 2)

Using ATIH 2012 PP, using an earlier build from last summer, on a laptop with Windows 7 Home 64-Bit I was able to split its single disk into separate partitions.

I must be missing something but do not see what. Or, perhaps the ability is gone in this build?

Greetings JBWA,

Welcome to our Forum, we will be very glad to be of assistance to you.

As a confirmation, you mentioned that you would like to create partitions from a single system partition on your new hard disk drive using Acronis True Image Home 2012 build release number 7119, from the Add New Disk utility under the Tools & Utilities tab; yet, contrary to successfully performing identical operations from one of the previous builds of the product, you are not able to do so with the latest update release; however, you are able to create partitions on a non-system partition on another hard disk using the same utility, Add New Disk; as a result, you would like to know why you are unable to create partitions on a system disk, whereas in previous builds of Acronis True Image Home 2012 this was possible. Please correct me where appropriate.

To further understand the root cause of the issue with the latest build, may I kindly ask of you to collect a System Report either from the product interface or by resorting to the standalone utility, AcronisInfo that generates one and the same system report logs - for us to analyse and report back to you with the underlying reason for issue.

Additionally, if you may also take screenshots of both your Disk Management layout in Windows that you may access by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage to see several side-menu snap-ins, and lastly choosing Disk Management; and the Add New Disk interface with the respective windows that display your disks and the options listed that prevent you from creating partitions from your single-partition system hard disk.

Lastly, if you may attach the System Report archive and the screenshots to your following post, or in the case of the archive exceeding the 15 MB attachment limit, if you will send it to our FTP server, by following these important steps, we will be very happy to analyse the data and get back to you with the appropriate answers.

We will really appreciate your efforts to perform the above two essential tasks, all to better understand the nature of the issue that you experience at present.

Please feel free to write to us if you have further questions that need addressing. You may also contact Acronis Customer Central for additional assistance should you require it.

Best,

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, I want create multiple partitions on my single drive that is currently in entirety my system disk. Yes, I previously did this on a different computer using an earlier build of ATIH 2012 with PP; that computer had only the one drive.

I have attached two pictures: 1) computer management; and, 2) add disk in Acronis. I don't understand "several side-menu snap-ins" in "Manage" - I only saw one of which I attached the picture.

I suspect I understand something more about what is happening for me. In Computer Management I see I have an option to shrink my disk. I suspect it needs to be shrunk to make space before Acronis would provide the option of creating a partition.

If so, what confused me is that on that other, earlier, computer, I shrunk the disk and created partitions from within Acronis.

And, again if so, what may be different this time, is I know that I have already integrated Acronis with Windows, which I may not have done at that point on the other computer.
