Missing Data

Thread needs solution

I recently purchased Acronis True Image for Windows 7 x64. I made image of "C" disc which contains the OS and data. The size of "C" is 76 GB. The image of "C" made by ATI is 61 GB. I am not using any compression and not excluding any data. Why is the image smaller than the original? Why is 15 GB of data missing from the backup?
Thanks. GL

G. Lacey:

TI will not include the paging file (pagefile.sys) or the hibernation file (hiberfil.sys) in the image, instead creating only placeholders for these two files since Windows will re-create them at boot time. Depending on the amount of memory in your PC, this may account for some of the missing space.

I doubt that any data is missing from your image but you can check yourself. Mount the image and then compare its contents to the contents of your C: partition.

G. Lacey,
Open Windows Disk Management and look at your disk in graphical view. If you have partitions other than C, then you should create a new backup and include all your partitions in the backup. This is especially important in windows 7 should you want or need to a replacement or larger disk.

Depending on how Windows was installed, you may or may not have other partitions but many Win 7 installations do have boot partitions and/or diagnostic partitions which need to be included in at least some of your backups.
