Missing e-mails after Outlook recovery

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I've bin using Acronis True Image 2013 for almost 3 month. Since I used it for backups on Outlook 2007. I started with an initial full-backup followed by incremental backups once a day on a QNAP NAS-storage device. Today Outlook came up with an error 0X80040600 (Corrupt PST-file). I had to quit all Outlook tasks and I was not able to start Outlook successfully again. So I decided to recover from Acronis backup. Everything went fine so far. After 2.5 hours the recovering procedure was finished. Outlook came up with no errors anymore. But my latest emails except those within the first full-backup were not recovered! It seems like the recovery has ignored all incremental backups. So I compared the first initial, 3 month old PST-file with the one Acronis has recovered today and there is a difference in file size of almost 1 GB, but in Outlook itself, I find exactly the same content in both files. What happened to my emails? How can I recover all of them? Has anyone experienced something like that? Desperately looking for any help.
Thank you,
Olli

I'm not able to solve your problem at this time, but make sure that you delete the task you have for backing up emails and make a new one with a new name, otherwise TI will not only overwrite the file it will possibly not work correctly as the True Image database is now incorrect due to your recovery.

On you storage drive, what is the last date for the backup image, if it isn't current (just before you recoverd), then as you suspect True Image hasn't backed up lthe state of your PST file consistently.

Thx Colin B. I'm very glad someone responds. I stopped all further Acronis backup tasks since the Outlook crash.  I will send some screenshots and further infos within 24h. Appreciation 4 your help. Pls stay tuned, Olli.

Hi Colin B,

finally I attached some screenshots with comments for better understanding. Pls see these first.

Due to the larger file size of the PST-file after Acronis' recovery, I come to the conclusion, that the missing emails where actually saved within the incremental backups and where in fact recovered into Outlook's PST-file. But for some reason Outlook is not able to display them. Or how can the nearly 1 GB difference in file-size be explained? As you can see at the end of the screenshot, there were several problems discovered by pstscan.exe MS's Office repair-tool. But using this didn't solve the problem either.

So these are the facts. Can you think of what went wrong? Or do you have an advice for me? These missing emails are really important. I'd be very glad for any help.

Kind regards,
Olli

I'm not sure how I missed your reply.

I'm not sure what is happening, so the following might be of no help for you.

I would suggest making shorter backup chains. In your attachment I see there are no backups for December, is that correct? If it is, this is where your problem lies, you are missing either a incrementals or a full. This means your complete archive for 2013 is not recoverable, only the Full in November is available.

I think selecting differentials as the type of backup is safer in this case instead of incremental. Differentials only require the latest, plus the original full to work, whereas incrementals require every incremental plus the full to be present.
