Missing incremental backups.

Thread needs solution

A long time ago I set my laptop (Acer) and Acronis TI2013 to perform a full backup to my WD MBL network drive via wifi. After that, I set the system up to perform an incremental backup everyday at noon. This appeared to be working ok.

But now I need to perform a complete restore to my laptop as it has become unusable after I attempted to update the Blackberry application on it.

To my horror, when I look at the backups via another connected pc there is a discontinuity 'numberwise' between the incremental backups. Please see attached image and note, for example, that incremental 'backups' 28-32 appear to be missing. Other incremental backups also appear to be missing. I have not deleted these (!?) The drive is only used for these backups and I have no reason to even look at the drive let alone delete anything on it, and my wife certainly doesn't have the knowledge to even navigate to the drive.

What are my options? Am I staring complete disaster in the face? The backup I want to restore is (or should be) 174 incremental backups 'away' from the original full backup. All advice and help appreciated.

Your posting would certainly imply that backups are definitely missing. A review of the log files could provide more details about the missing or the cause of the missing..

In order to restore a incremental, the files must be sequential from slice S1 up to the s# of the file to be restored.
If any missing, the chain is broken. A restore is only possible only from the highest slice S# which is continuous.

This need for continuity is one of the weaknesses of the incremental backup/restore process.
This link will help explain.

If wanting to use the incrmental type backups, it is much better to keep the number of inc to a much smaller number and have full type backups performed more frequently.

Look at link #2 below and check out the 11-Inc and 11-Full examples. These examples provide for automatic cleanup. Also, if you add email notification to your task, the program will notify you of its success or failure via email.
