Mix compression settings

Thread needs solution

There is any problem if I make a full backup with no compression and then make its incremental backups with normal compression? Or vice-versa? Or mixing the compression settings between backups of the same chain?
How can I see the compression setting used to make a particular backup?
I searched for this information in the knowledge base but I didn’t found it.

That is a good question. With 2012, you set the compression at the task level. If you modify the setting in the course of the backup, the new settings will be applied, but I am not sure when. Maybe for the next backup, or maybe for the next chain. You see these settings in the advanced tab of the backup options.
Note that making a backup with normal compression can make the backup bigger than the original data, because ATI adds chksum calculations in the file. Leaving at normal compression would typically leave a compressed file format (like JPEG or MP3) at about the same size: ie the compression compensates for the minimal compression gains when the content includes a lof of compressed files. INcreasing compression for already compressed files doesn't help, on the contrary.

I am asking because I make image backups (not file backups) of a partition where I have mainly music, videos and photos. As these data are already compressed, I change the compression setting backup from “normal” (the default) to “none”. But, sometimes, making an incremental backup I forget to change this setting, and so a “normal” compressed backup is created. This generates mix compress settings in the same chain full + incremental backup, with the full and some incremental backups created without compression and the others incremental backups created with normal compression. Then I ask: Is there any problem if this happen?
Let me say that I use to make only stand alone backups, using the Acronis bootable media.
