Move Acronis backups from old to new hard disk

Thread needs solution

My old hard disk drive is close to failing. The Geek Squad, yeah, I went there, installed a new SDD for my OS and a new HDD to move my programs to, like Acronis.  The old HDD still works but it failed 2 of 3 of their tests so I need to recover the backups that Acronis did on the failing drive and put them on the new drive. I have already downloaded and reinstalled 2015 on my new HDD.

Is there a way to move the backups so that the newly installed 2015 will recodnize and use them?

Thanks,

David

David, welcome to these user forums.

Assuming that you cannot your old HDD to your system via USB or on a spare drive connector internally, then you should be able to just copy the old Acronis backup image files (.TIB) to your new HDD.

Once you have done the copy across, then in ATIH 2015 just use the option to add in existing backups and then reconfigure the settings for those backups.  I would also recommend doing a Validate for your copied backups.

Thanks Steve. I can't currently boot from the old drive, if that's what you were asking, but I do have a recovery thumb drive now. I wonder if I could boot from that if it would be easier?  Still looking for the .tib file(s)

Ah, I found them (duh, I had them pointing to yet another disk (not corrupted or about to fail).  The one that's about to fail is the old OS disk.  So now it looks like I need to read about about your other point, using the option to add existing backups...
