Moving to another PC

Thread needs solution

I would like to know if it is possible to move the content (including programs and data) from one computer to another, including or excluding the operating system (Windows 8.1)

Case in point: I have a computer that works perfectly, except for the audio which is good only in the right channel. I want to move everything to another identical twin computer. Can I do that using any Acronis tool?

With Acronis you can move from one computer to another, but there are a couple of caveats:
- on Windows, it is impossible to backup and restore OS and programs separately. OS, Programs and C:\users\...\ folders should be backed up and restored together. You can however, backup the content of the typical user folders separately (documents, videos, pictures, favorites, desktop, downloads, et.)
- often, "identical" computers are not exactly the same and disk controllers are different. You would need to use the Universal Restore to move your OS, programs and C:\users\..\ folders. Universal restore comes only with the premium edition.

- if your computer has only one disk, you would create a disk and partition backup using ATI (Acronis True Image) of you entire system disk, one for the old computer, and one for the new computer (in case the whole thing doesn't work as expected, you can at least restore the working computer), and restore this image on the other computer. If the other computer errors out on booting after the restore, it means it was not identical, and you will have to start the restore over with the Universal Restore feature enabled.
