Moving prgrammes and files to a new PC but still using same OS (Windows 7)

Thread needs solution

My current PC is dying and beyond repair. Have ordered new PC. Can I simply use Acronis Home 2010 to copy image of hard drive from my old PC to my new PC? Both hard drives are SATA but have different storage capacity. Apart from minor hardware changes such as different graphics card all hardware and software are the same. Dont want to do clean install unless I really have to.

Any advice?

Thanks

Gordon

It is very likely the hardware will be different enough fo you to need to have the universal restore feature that comes with the Plus Pack.

The good thing you can try with little risk.

When you receive your new PC, using the Acronis recovery CD, backup the entire disk to a USB disk, for safekeeping.

Backup the entire disk (all partitions) of your old PC to a USB disk, using the Acronis recovery CD.

Restore your old PC on your new computer.

If it doesn't boot or has a blue screen you have few options:
- you can purchase the Plus Pack and do a universal restore. YOu can extract from your new PC backup all the driver files in the System32/Drivers folder, put it on a USB stick for universal restore to find during that restore,

- you can do a repair install of Windows using your OLD PC installation disk. This will preserve your programs and files.

- you can upgrade your OS using your NEW PC installation disk.
