MVPs Look at these Screenshots of Erroneous details in 2015

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I posted this a few days ago http://forum.acronis.com/forum/123742

I have new information. I think MVP who have the ear of Acronis should definitely tell them about this. It is completely beyond belief that Acronis would let this slip by quality control and be in a final version.
Build 6613 truimage 2015

The previous post above, concerned a Recover operation started in the Windows Truimage 2015 interface which would require a reboot. All the Source backup file and destination were selected correctly. My screenshots And represented correctly on Truimage Interface. Until the last step when it show erroneous details for Source and Destination locations

After the excellent replies from Steve and Bobbo MVPs I decide to use only the USB bootable version. Because it was recover a C drive OS.

Today I needed to clone an 8GB usb drive to another blank 8GB usb.  I did the succesfull backup inside windows interface. Validated that 26 mb TIB file.  Then proceeded to Recover the Backup file to new target USB drive. Which was the only USB on the PC.  Truimage found all existing Disks.  Including the blank USB stick.

Now look at the screenshots attached here.  I went ahead and executed the final Recover command inside Truimage 2015 interface and took a chance.  The result was a successful recovery to the selected USB drive, it only took 41 seconds.

snap288.png shows the proper selections made for Source and Destination

Then clicked Recover now final command. And while the Recover operation proceeded this is what it showed me in snap289.png  And the recover was successful for the original settings

Please report this to Acronis.  How has anyone been using this interface trusting this erroneous information shown for every recovery operation?

Thanks,

Jan

Jan, can I please clarify how you were doing this 8GB USB backup / restore to a second 8GB USB stick?

Was this all done completely within ATIH 2015 running on Windows 7?  That is how I understand your post above but want to be sure.

Hi Steve,

That is correct.  This was all inside the Windows interface.  One backup create with USB #1.  Then created the TIB. The selected the Backup and clicked the  "Recover disks" and selected the correct TIB file and selected Destination to blank formatted USB #1

And it was successful in doing exactly what I selected. However as you can see the display of Operations in Progress is completely wrong.

And let me add with emphasis... every Recover operation done from the Windows interface for ATIH 2015 Build does the same... the Source is shown as the orginal source and drive location.  the Destination is shown as the original Drive and Location for the backup TIB storage... and not the Disk selected in first step.

Everything "Recover Disks" is this way. No exceptions. Display for progess is erroneous

This is ATIH 2015 Build 6613 which is reported as Up to Date.Windows 7 Professional - all updates applied

I have a new problem too.  For some reason all Rescue Media (linux version not WinPE) created with this installation of ATIH is now crashing.  I get the Boot menu up on MOBO Post and select either the DVD drive containing a DVE Rescue disc, or a USB rescue media.  They will both to the initial Acronis loading in linux. The Main Menu appears. And when I click on the menu item "Acronis Truimage 2015" after its fully loaded, it immediately crashes to a black screen with 80 lines of debug code I can see "Panic Kernel" in there a lot.

I emphasize that this is Rescue medi, both USB and DVD linux. a created in last few days with same installation as above.  Neither will successfully load up after Post.

Best Regards

Jan

Jan, thanks for the confirmation of the process.

I have been able to replicate this on one of my systems running Windows 7 with ATIH 2015 and see the confusing screen when the restore is being done.

I then tried the same on another system running Windows 10 with ATIH 2016 and this gave all the correct panels, so whatever the issue was with 2015, it is fixed in 2016.

Unfortunately, I expect that is all that Acronis will advise you on this issue, i.e. it is resolved in 2016!  Their focus now is on getting out ATIH 2017 so I very much doubt they would spend any time updating 2015 when 2016 already is OK.

One workaround here is to simply do a Clone of one USB stick to the second USB stick assuming that you have two USB ports to allow this, this instead of doing the backup and restore / recovery.

On the new problem with the Linux Rescue Media - it may be best to open a new post to avoid confusing issues, but please test whether this is media specific or machine specific, i.e. does this issue happen with the same media on multiple machines or can you make working media on another machine that works OK on all systems?

Thanks Steve, at least I know you have confirmed that the 2015 interface is erroneous. Hardly a bug, in my opinion. After using TI for over a decade, I lament the lost of previous simple intuitive software that just plain worked for years and was 100% dependable. While the core engine may still be good, Acronis has continually churned us all through continual updates... which are more or less just interface changes that make the product difficult to use and add no value.

And we pay for the privilege of wasting our time with issues like this one.

And thanks for the thought, Joey... but I miss that date by 4 months.

I'm stuck with paying an upgrade fee again to get a properly working interface that should have done correctly in 2015.

Thanks to all MVPs
